Dealer says my car is worth $50K for trade in.

Dealer says my car is worth $50K for trade in.
So I call my dealer today and ask him about trading up to a 2005 CLK55. I have a 2003 CLK55 with 9K miles on it. He tells me his book says its worth $50K. Thats all.
I couldn't believe it. I paid $73K for this car new......a little over a year ago.
That sucks.

Yep, the market on CLK55s are ridulously low and now the banks have gotten wise as well. I remember when the 208 55 came out the residuals were thru the roof, now they are thru the basement. I have leased my car with the realization that if I try to get out of it in 2 years, there will be some severe negiative equity. So, this means that I am going to have to hang on to this one for a while and keep adding mods to keep myself interested!!

A lot of people complain about trade-in values from dealers, and everyone always suggests selling privately...................if YOU are patient and wait for the right buyer, my guess is that you should be able to get at least high 50's low 60s for that car...50K flat is kind low

I am looking into trading in my 2004 CLK55 for a 2005 CLK55
and the price the dealer was giving me was 60k. Im still not happy
with that price so Im looking in for selling it privately.
If any of you are interested let me know.

I want to trade up my 2003 because the 2005 has most of the things I wish I always had on my CLK such as,
Dual exhaust
18 inch rims
single CD in dash as well as CD changer
Not too concerned about the new spedo
I will tell my dealer tomorrow that the only way I will trade up is if my monthly payments stay exactly the same. I think he won't be making as much money off my car as he would like, but if he likes having me as a customer I hope he does it.

You could always buy 18-inch wheel's from harris, i ordered a really nice set of HRE 18's, and am considering the Carlsson quad exhaust which i think is somewhere around 3k. harris told me the Carlsson exhaust sounds even deeper then the quad might be. good luck either-way!

Andy - I am considering the same, my wife basically traded her 2002 c320 in for a 2005 pewter clk55 which has not been delivered yet, i bought my black 2004 in may because 1- i couldn't wait. 2- the dealer told me there would not be any changes in 2005. shocking! anyway i love the new features the 2005 has, quad exhaust, new nav, etc.. i bought a set of HRE 18's which I have not put on my 2004 yet which won't hert in either case. I am wondering what your thoughts are, and how much a trade in might be?
