WTB: CLK 55 Airbox

I have a 99 430 (should've got the 55) and would like to swap out my airbox for the 55 's as I've heard it gives some decent power gains. Anyone out there have one they want to sell?

I would just get the Renntech Carbon fiber air box.

While I do like the cosmetic look of the carbon fiber Renntech airbox, I have been told by numerous sources, to include Mercedes service technicians, that the Renntech box is way too pricey for the gain you get. I'd be happy with 10-12 HP from the AMG airbox.

Correct. The Renntech airbox is a couple grand for the same gain as the sub $600 AMG box. It just looks pretty ;0)

Actually, its only a couple grand for the ECU + CF airbox. They don't normally sell the CF airboxes alone, but i have sold one for a C43. The box was 900 something. Now, for the few hundered more then a OEM CLK55 box, come on, its a no brainer which one to get.

Not everyone out there has a couple grand to throw at a measly 10-20 HP gain. For a couple grand, I can buy a very nice roots or centrifugal supercharger for another application. For $1000, I bought a used procharger for my 69 Camaro which gave me gains of 190 HP at only 10 psi. Puts things into perspective. The top speed limiter removal included with the ECU upgrade is nice though.

That's not really what i am trying to say. Granted, ANY american car part, or i will say, any other car part but mercedes parts are cheap. But if you are going to spend 600 bucks on a OEM peice for some HP i would spend about 400 more for probably slightly more gains and better looks. But thats just me.

I do think it looks much better but I don't think that the gains are significantly more than the 55 airbox to justify the $400 higher price unless I get the package the ECU upgrade so the engine to take full advantage of the increased airflow. And with it being under the hood, most people will never see the carbon fiber as I don't take it to shows or anything like that. For the 430, the 55 airbox is a nice upgrade. I'm still shooting myself for not saving a little more and getting the 55.

That'd be awesome bro. I take it the C55 airbox is the same as the CLK 55 airbox? If thats the case , I'm be happy to buy it from you and help offset the cost of the Renntech setup for you. Lemme and know and we'll work out the details.

Yes, the C55 airbox is identical to the CLK55 airbox. If you are willing to wait approx. a month to about a month and a half the most i would sell it. But if you were looking for something much sooner then that, i understand.

A month is fine. I'm in no rush. Would this include the air intake tubes that go with the intake or do those connect to the Renntech box? Either way is fine. Please e-mail me at blake.bearden@verizon.net when you are ready to sell.

Sounds great! I think the intake tubes connect to the new airbox, so i guess it wont come with those. But I will definitely email you when the time comes, which hopefully will be soon!
