Don't know what Mercedes calls it or if they even offer an orange anywhere in the world but I would call that color on a BS very cool! Do you know if that is/was a US car?

Hello James
NOW, you could be a lucky owner of such a car, as shown on your signature ...
One is for sale !
A German collector is selling one of the two ever produced P900 CLK - through a Swiss broker. This "Orange" should be sold outside Europe - the asked price is about 300K Euro (Net).
Kind regards
Walter
PS: Attached the pdf file - with the offer of the swiss broker (of course without Name and contact details)

Yes James,
The first one is already in the U.S. since some time
But honestly, the price asked for - is completely ridiculous ... - For this you can build a new one, on demand directly at AMG Performance Studio Affalterbach...
BTW ... Of course it is possible, to order your car, in ANY colour you want, at the Performance Studio ! (even in the same orange, or any lipstick colour of your girlfriend )
kind regards
Walter

Was thinking wouldn't it be something if you were to build a CLK DTM (209) chassis but with an engine from a Pagani Zonda?

I am afraid this engine will not fit in the booth of the W209 chassis ... and IF it would fit (with heavy modifications) .. the weight balance would not be really good for a race car ...
Even I am a real fan of AMG cars - I would rather go for another model, for less the price, with higher performance (which I was allowed to test already) .. like an AM => http://www.astonmartinracing.com/eng/thecars/dbr9
kind regards & good night
Walter
PS: Already 1.10 AM here in Paris ...

P900 at Spa
Here's a picture of the P900 that was at Spa-Francorchamps at the AMG Driving Academy event there in 2007. I had the priviledge of being chauffeured around the track by Jamie Green, one of AMG's DTM drivers. Great car, driven by a very capable pilot!
Note: This car is based upon a production vehicle and is definitely not a real DTM Racing car. Those cars are purpose built racing cars that only vaguely look like a production vehicle from the spectator grandstands. This car is more akin to a "tuned" CLK-DTM. Stripped down interior, radical automatic transmission, wonderful sounding exhaust, poly-carbonate windows, and, of course, that wonderful high-visibility orange color.
Just imagine how easily the highway patrol could pick you out of a line of traffic!

Ugh, another waste of time and energy that will never see it's true calling in a racing series yet be badged as a "taxi"....
AMG needs to wake up and realize that F1 and DTM do not sell cars.

I agree with 50% of this statement, as I am a firm believer that they do sell cars from the DTM series. Not many but since they have production based cars in the series, it is highly likely to stir up some sales. It does give more brand recognition in europe to the race fans, who have lots of other brands to chose from. I also think that it is vital to have the series, since I am sure that there has to be some techology transfer from the race cars to the production cars of the near future. Jus my $.02.

I wonder if you are aware that the cars that race in the DTM series merely have the appearance of modified production vehicles? My understanding is that the only thing "production" about the DTM racing car is the requirement that a small portion of the roof of the car must be from a production car (some arcane rule that no doubt has evolved over the years). The rest of the car is a very exotic, purpose-built, highly refined racing car.
The outer body shell is designed to resemble the shape of a production car in order to foster spectator appeal.
The above picture was of a car that AMG brought to a press day. i am not sure if it is an actual DTM car or merely a replica (similar to the look-alike NASCAR cars that are built to make public appearances, but never to be raced).
But, if you remove the carbon fiber skin, you will find a very exotic car beneath.

Correct....and that car pictured above is about as similar to it's roadgoing sibling as Tony Stewart's Impala is to the Impala you buy at the dealer. They have almost nothing whatsoever in common.
JDB - Almost ALL AMG's are sold in North America.... With that being said, my first suggestion would be to start a factory racing campaign in either ALMS or Grand Am.
