I havent read what anyone else has said but i got a set of hre m40's for my car and they made me 19x9.5 fronts and 19x11 rears. Perfect fit and you can get a corsa or toyo r888 to fit perfectly or even a hoosier

Ahhhhhh....... finally....... What is all the whoopla about??? So he was driving a little fast... Big deal.

What size & bran tires are you running? I dont think I need anything wider than a 265 up front but I am certain i need 305's in the back. I would love to see some pics of what your car looks like with the wheels on. did you lower your car after you put on the new wheels? Thank you for your input. looking forward to seeing the pictures, if you happen to have any.

Remember, the Corsas take a LONG time to get up to temp. I guarantee you normal street driving will not get them up to temp whatsoever. To give you an idea of exactly how long it takes to get them up to temp....last time out at Willow, me on my Michelins and Jimmy on his Corsas, he couldn't keep up with me for the first 2laps out...but as soon as his Corsas were up to temp he was ALL OVER ME. 2 laps on the big track at willow means you have to be pushing it HARD for a long time on the street to even get them up to operating temp. Also, if you have more than a couple track days on the Corsas, they are most likely gone. The R compound is only good for about 15-20 heat cycles, MAX.

Just so you know, I went with Michelin PS2's and I love them for the street and occasional track day. They get up to temp quick and stay there. First gear WOT and of course you will spin...but take a look at the video below. I'm in third gear WOTwith only a slight amount of tail wiggle mid turn. I'm putting the power down no prob and do not feel this car needs a wider tire - it just needs GOOD tires in GOOD shape.

Thank you for the information. I have one track event on the tires and probably 30 canyon runs. The tires arent shot but getting there. I love the corsas, they are great tires. Part of the reason for the new wheels is the fact that they dont fill the gap space like they should (imo). A little smaller or narrower than they should be. The other reason is that even with the tires hot (or as hot as my abilities will make them ) I still believe that the car is lacking straight line grip. Maybe its just me. I also agree that TIRES are extremely important. I vertainly wont cheap out on tires once i make the purchase. I am pretty sure i will go with the PS2 unless I can get my hands on a set of Corsas in the right size combo, which is a 265 /305 combination. I only have 4300 miles on the tires and the car.
Damn I love that thing. I sometimes wish there was a way I could sleep in it someitmes. Oh well....[/U]

On another note. Whats the deal with all the VM chatter.

I remember it as:
"C-c-c-c can't we all just get along?"

He may have coined an immortal quote with that one!

At 4,300 miles, I would assume you're near the end of the tire, I got 5k but they were done a couple of hundred miles before.
I get about 500 track miles from the Corsa's and I'd love to try the R888's but need to find the right rim.

Well I must admit that I drive like that all the time too esp now with the evo headers and pipes. And whenever the road gets curvey, I see it as an "opportunity" and whichever part of my brain is responsible for "risk/reward analysis" seems to shut off...

But I think what nielssl originally meant was that while we all have money and insurance...and can pay the consequences in terms of any property damage...what if there were a little kid on a bicycle that just rolled out of the garage and onto the street?

Not taking sides but just think that neilssl does have a valid point in that regard...

BTW: Great vid LZH. That's probably the hottest CLK BS vid i've seen aside from the Top Gear ones...

Although this is a little off topic, Eitan1...have you thought about getting performance mods instead?

Because I was set on wheels for a while too and then decided to go with the headers/pipes & ECU and I'm pretty glad I did. My logic was: If I'm going to spend so much money, it better really make enough of a difference to justify the cost.

Nice clip L!

I'm guessing you're running the EVO exhaust system correct? Sound is just sick!

Thanks !! Actually, I took that vid to show how the car sounds with JUST the secondary cats removed. Everything else in the exhaust is stock. The video was originally posted here:

https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...ight=secondary

Nobody in that thread seemed to have any issues with safety. I'm not sure how may more times I can cay it...I drive that street a lot....I went up and down that section at least 3 times looking for bikers, walkers, runners, other cars etc...I had someone spotting as well and we were both in communication via cell phone. Not sure how much more safe I could have possibly made it.

That's just without the secondary cats? Amazing. Thought you had the evo setup but that sounds really good!

One thing I can say... the 63's (all of them) have an amazing stock exhaust tone and the RD makes it even better!

Doubt it. The EVO setup is more or less straight pipes and I cannot imagine my car passing emmisions without a hookup...but to me, it's worth it.

As long as you have the primary cats in place it should pass...

For a while there, this was turning into a WWF Steel cage match, lol!

HRE M40's look so sick on a W209 CLK bodystyle. Great choice. I would go with Choice 2 and Michelin PS2 rubber. You won't be dissappointed.

I'm pretty sure the cats are removed with the EVO headers/pipes. I know this because I get high on fumes every time I drive it...which is good because it saves me some money. jk

But I think there are some pics of the setup in the thread of my car build:

Guys,
Can we be a little bit nice to each other. There aren't that many of us, and there is no gain in fighting each other off.
I happen to agree with LZH.
First, TireRack measured my car and told me that 18's won't fit. There is interference with a steering knuckle.
Second, the Corsas take at least 2 very hot laps to warm up, and before that, the car lacks rear grip until then.
Third, LZH wasn't street racing. How fast is too fast is arbitrary. My neighbors have asked me to slow down from time to time, and I have complied. All of us are guilty of some indiscretions. If you have ever hit 100 mph on the highway, you are guilty of reckless driving.
Fourth, I don't see any aftermarket wheels improving the appearance over stock rims. +1's will furthter hurt ride and handling.

Agreed. It seems that this car was designed to look a certain way and changing it sorta defeats the whole point. I was shopping around for wheels for weeks until I finally realized (with the help of chuckz and jrcart) that there are currently only 2 sensible wheel options for this car: (A) Stock (B) Dymags.

Does anyone care about speedometer reading with a wider profile tire? I would go with option 2 as well, and I know 295/30 doesn't differ much from 285/30, but what about 305/30?

Only comparable tire in 295/30 would be the R888, 305/30 gives you option of Pilot Cup tires.

I have HRE M40's on my car: 9.5 x 19 w/275's and 10.5 x 19 w/295's. No rubbing at all, and my car is lowered.
