Question - K&N Filter Installation
Has anyone installed K&N filters in the CLKBS yet? I tried it today but I'm not not mechanically inclined and could not get the covers off after removing the four hex screws on each side. Is there a hidden hex screw and must I also remove the intake tubes? It was a lot easier on my other AMG's.

I seem to recall there was a thread last year showing step by step photos of how to remove the air filters and air box (and mention of a hidden screw) but can't seem to find it using the search feature at the moment. Maybe someone else remembers.

Replaced My Filters
After talking to my local SA who looked at the replacement procedures I was able to replace my OEM filters with K&Ns. It's not difficult.
1. Requires 2 K&N 33-2405 filters that cost approximately $50.00 a piece.
2. Pull up and unsnap the front part of the "U" cover. It's tight and held by three snaps (front and two sides) but it will come loose.
3. Find the correct torx screwdriver to unscrew the FIVE (5) torx screws that hold the air filter cover down
4. Lift the cover and remove the OEM air filter. I also used my ShopVac to clean the inside of the filter housing (although I only have 7,900 miles there was still a lot of dirt and leaves)
5. Replace with K&N filter, it slides right in.
6. Replace screws and tighten.
7. Snap the "U" cover back into place
It took me about 30 minutes to replace both air filters.

Todd, I bought it from Victor at VRP. I think the company that produces the cover is called Carbonium. I bought the cover a long time ago, for somewhere around $2000 and put it on myself. The cover might be cheaper now.

My CF airbox has a bigger plenum compared to the stock one. That in combination of removing the charcoal filters/paper filters and putting in BMC's will make some power. Can't say what it would translate into hp numbers on a dyno though.

No CEL issues. The oil that is used on the BMC filters has been tested and has no effect on the MAF elements. Also, the polyurethane edge of the filters will not break or de-compose like other brands from under-hood heat. I've been using BMC's for years and they are also used in Formula 1 cars. That comes with a premium of course, filters are twice as expensive as K&N's.
