Eliminated Brake Dust

Several weeks ago I installed Akebono brake pads on my E550 and followed it up with Armorall wheel protectant and Mcguire's Endurance tire protectant. I've driven the car in almost all weather conditions except snow to-date and had it washed every week. At first I was skeptical but after several weeks there is virtually no brake dust build-up and my rims and tires always look like the just came out of the car wash. This combination appears to really work and I'm now a believer!

I will post some pictures of my E550. I also use the ArmorAll and McGuire's on my current rims and tires which saves me a lot of clean-up time as the brake dust from my OEM pads just washes off! My OEM Corsa's will soon be replaced with Michelin PS2's and Akebono pads that will significantly reduce my tire and rim cleaning time even more.

I also replaced my 07 Sport rims with OEM AMG 5-spokes and Michelin Pilot plus A/S tires. The Akebono, ArmorAll and Mcguire's combo works extremely well. My rims stay a lot cleaner and only require an occasional squirt of the hose and wipe down to keep them spotless.

Akebono's rock. I switched to them on my CL55 and was thrilled with the lack of brake dust.
I wouldn't use Armor All anything but that's just a leftover reaction from back in the day when they were making dashboards shiny and cracked.

Mike, since you used them before, how's the performance compared to the stock pads?

I didn't track the CL Sascha but the initial bite on the Akebono's was good enough for the street. I used them at the dragstrip but that's no big deal either when you're running low 12's. It's apples and oranges and I'm just not sure how the ceramics would fare with a workout worthy of a Black Series.

Since the front stock pads for the BS are $240 (MB Club discount), I think the Akebono's would have to be <$140 for me to switch. That way it would be worth the gamble. I'd be shocked if they held up under track use. Just one session would tell us all we needed to know!

Bear in mind that I use Vredestein tires for the street so I bet the Akebono's would work perfectly there ... I'd still go back to stock for the track.

Agree on cheaper pads not holding up at the track. Any high-performance pads I've had with low dust properties in the past have not been good enough for track days. Think I'll stick with the OEM pads unless someone has a better alternative for both track and street. BTW, Who makes the OEM pads?

FWIW, I've heard and may have read that Akebono makes the OEM pads for the later W211 and W212 models plus several other models.
