Vented Hood pic finally

Hi guys

Well i pick car up tomorrow just in time for track day on Wednesday. Here is a pic the guys at Ramspeed sent me of the hood they fabricated. The design is mine - or should i say Brabus' as its direct rip off of the Brabus Bullit hood - and probably not to everyone's taste. It was fabricated from a stock CLK hood. The vents were cut by hand and the black mesh used matches as close as possible the mesh from the vents behind the front wheels. I have not seen the car in person myself yet.

When i first saw this picture i kind of thought uh oh, i dont know if i made the right design choices but after staring at it for a few hours the more i look at it the more i like it. the angle of the picture makes the front row of vents seems skinnier than what i designed. I want to thank Andrew from Ramspeed for all his help. If anyone in Sydney has a custom design project like this in mind, Andrew and Ramspeed are your guys! I also just had the Vorsteiner front lip installed which you can also just see in the picture.

I hope to have some better shots to post in the near future

Not sure of the purpose of the front set of slots...
The louvers in a low pressure area alone are enough to extract heat from the engine bay.

i think the hood looks really good it's always nice to see other people's creative thinking . i am in the process of having a carbon hood made for my C63 . it will be a DTM style hood .

as long as it works. The benefit of your hood is that you don't have to worry about hood pins and carbon fiber hood failure. I think some pics from afar would be needed before making judgement. Also you may consider wrapping your car in matte black as the brabus designs always seem to be on black vehicles.

Have to say that I agree Just sort of "out of place." But whatever works for you! I hope you have a second "stock" hood and maybe use this one strictly for track.

Thanks guys, like i said its a bit polarising! At this stage i like it but will reserve my final judgement for when i see it in person. I still have the stock hood so if i change my mind i can revert back to the original.

I would have stopped after the vents towards the back of the hood. Skip on the four vents in the front.

BUT...

I'll decide after I see a few more pics...Look forward to pics!

I think what some of these guys are forgetting is that your BS is now FI and it generates more heat than a standard BS and is now more adversely affected by heat. This will definately help evacuate some more of that heat and more than the factory vents.

So is this a modded hood or one that was made. If it was modded, how was it done?

It is a regular CLK hood that i bought specifically and the vents were cut by hand. Blakc mesh has been used and fixed on from the underside of the hood

How was it done? Was a template used and how did you decided on where you wanted the vents. I've been looking at doing brabus vents for the longest time, but I couldn't figure out how to do it.

Hi mate

All I did was get a picture of Brabus Bullit hood, mark out the vents and gave it to a professional to cut out. Then bought black mesh a used urethane glue to fix it in place.
Then sprayed bonnet matching silver

Looks great, have you had any trouble with water getting in your engine bay?

exactly i think it looks good and very functional for releasing heat from the engine bay .

i think water is the least of his worries . engine temps were the #1 priority and from the list of the other cars , he could always drive another if it's raining

I'm considering venting the hood also. For now I cut out the bottom side of the hood near the vents at the back of the engine bay.

I thought I read that this area was showing some heat wear - figured it wouldn't hurt anything. I'll do some 'venting' of the hood later.

Agreed with RBYCC - might look good but unless you are standing still it won't make anything run cool.
