Interested in the CLK 63 Blk Series
Hi,
I'm thinking of selling my Porsche and get a CLK 63 Blk Series but I don't know anything about this car. I just love the styling and the aggressiveness look as well as the sound and the performance. Are there any tips or advice that you may have about the car and also what to look for? Thanks so much in advanced..

I went from a Porsche into the CLK BS as well. Just go drive one. Read stuff here, you'll find that most people love the car, including race car drivers.
Things to look for:
1) Run a Carfax and Autocheck (Duh)
2) Tracking this car is a good thing, not a bad thing
3) Try and get a vehicle history report, although MB sucks when it comes to this. Each dealer has their own database of customer service, so getting a complete view of history across all the various dealers is not simple. MB corp will not provide this across all of their dealer network.
4) Don't be scared of a multi-owner car. Some people who can afford cars in this range tend to flip cars more often.
5) Don't buy one from Joe's Buy-Here-Pay-Here lot
6) If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is

I have had five previous Porsches in my car history, all naturally aspirated (356, 914-6, 911 SC, 944 Turbo, and 993 Carrera 4 Cabriolet) as well as three NSXs, and was leaning towards a 996 GT2 or 997 GT3 until I came across the CLK63 Black Series. I have since thrown all Porsche ideas out the window. The CLK63 Black Series is simply epic, and unique. Do it, and you will love it, assuming you are a driver and not a 'cruiser'.

The CLK63 and C63 Black Series has officially ruined me. I bought a 911TT in August last year, and just sold it last week. Owned the car for 10 months and was bored on every single drive.

I went the other way, BS to 07 997TT. Two different cars, the BS can be brutal and handles like the track car it was designed to be (good) whereas the 997 is more sophisticated, rides better and is more streetable. I like them both and it really depends upon how you're going to use the car.

Most of the origional buyer of the BS came from porsche's. Personally I've had 8 porsche's of various types. Don't miss anyone of them.

Ive seen a stock 997.1 Turbo trap 120+, at the drag strip. Never seen a stock or any CLK63 BS run though.
For a comparison, at least from mag data, the 997.1 Turbo seems awfully quicker.

On a circuit a BS is faster than a 997tt.1 we've tested em at WSIR. We've yet to find a stock 997tt to break 1:30.
I've witnessed a 997tt.1 go head to head on the autobahn with the Clk63bs, advantage BS.
Pretty hard to find a "stock"997tt at a drag strip so the times are a bit suspect but on a drag strip with rear engine and hard lauch hard to beat the porsche.

Anyway, that's a 997.2TT ... a 997.1TT in the real world, not a drag strip, it's advantage from a dig becomes a disadvantage on a road course. The AWD can't hide the fact that the engine is in the rear. Same thing on the street ... in all the years of owning fast cars, I NEVER lined up at a light with a car in the same or better performance category. Unless you're looking for it, it won't happen
Besides, racing someone in a straight line takes no skill whatsoever ... it only requires a fast car and a right foot. But if you throw a couple of corners into the mix ... you behind the wheel can make a difference, even if the numbers on paper say otherwise

My BS was brutal and explosive when I nailed it. You must be prepared for the rear wheels to lose traction (I had Corsa's) and the rear end to slide. It's not a good car in rain so it can't (IMO) qualify as a daily driver, at least in VA. I'm sure someone will take exception to that. P-TT accleration in linear and comes on quickly and smoothly but it's not as exciting as the BS (by a long shot). I have the tiptronic which turns the TT into a "point and steer" car whereas the paddle shifters on a BS make the ride more interesting and driver involved. I tend to agree with the other posters, the BS is the better "hot rod" and the TT is the better DD. I'm not sure which car I prefer because I haven't tracked or explored the limits of my TT yet. It does say something though that I do continue to monitor and post here and I do miss my BS. There could be another one in my future for sure.

Perhaps a little remorse but my "problem" is I tire of cars quickly and move on just as fast without a lot of after thought or reflection. There is always a better car out there. For example, I'm already thinking of a 2010/2011 Turbo S as a replacement for my TT. As noted earlier, I've owned so many great cars (I'm very fortuntate, life has been good to me) that I don't form attachments to them. The BS however is such a great car that embodies so much that appeals to me in a high performance car it's hard to forget, unlike so many others. But, I don't miss it.

Thx, Gents.I'd noticed that the BS out there have extremely low miles. What should i look for when looking at the car? Are there any special maintenance item that should be addressed? Also, what is the rough price estimate for a decent one?

Check the Sun Coast Porsche (FL) website for a nice red (rare) BS with 27K miles. Asking is 72K+ but I think you can get it for a lot less, perhaps in the mid to high $60K range.

I was just always under the impression that the 997.1 and 997.2 TTs were both faster than a Black series in a straight line.
If given the choice, I still don't know which I would prefer, will be a fun time determining that for sure.

I'm confused ... why are we talking about what skill levels are involved in a controlled environment like a drag strip? I was talking about "real world" driving on public roads and a road course. If you are only interested in "straight line speed", you do realize you're in the wrong sub-forum

From first hand experience at the drag strip, not google, I have seen a stock 997 911TT trap 120. I have seen Full exhaust/Tune C63's trap 120-121. Meaning without their mods they would be slower. CLK63 can be put in the same realm with the C63 as far as straight line speed.
If a stock 997.1 TT can keep pace with a modded C63, than it would be safe to say it can beat a stock CLK63 BS. Not just a 997.2 TT, has that ability.
