BS with 100k miles - would you care?

Would anyone consider buying a bs with 100k? Any major potential drawbacks to spending around 40k for one with this many miles? Thanks

Btw, here's why I'm asking:
I thought you would like this 2008 Mercedes-Benz CLK63 AMG for $39,000 on AutoTrader.com

No pictures of it so don't know how bad the wear and tear is. Get a thorough inspection done and try to find a service history. If you can get it for high 20's or low 30's, it may be worth it.

Only with well documented history...all scheduled maintenance being the biggest, followed by minimal/no track time and cosmetics (as a good sign of how well the car has been taken care of) as final area. All that said, IMO $40K is high...low 30s sounds more realistic.

I also think it may depend on what you want to use it for. ex - if you were going to modify and race it - sure (though 40 does sound a little high but depends on what color it is), but if you were going to drive it every so often or "museum" it... then, obviously, i would look to spend more for less miles.

if you're speaking of longevity and how it holds up around this mileage, I think these were built well, from what i understand...

CLK63 BS
While I'm a firm believer that the CLK BS is unfairly lumped in with other high end MB's in terms of cost of repair/maintenance, at 100K miles it will begin to be comparable and as such should be priced accordingly. Having said that though, I think a 50/60K mi model that's priced a couple thousand more than this one is definitely worth it. Add an aftermarket warranty if you're especially risk averse, but to me that's the sweet spot in terms of cost of ownership and enjoyment. Ya got 3 or 4 more years of driving at 8/9K miles a year and will probably be able to sell it for ~$35K at the end of 2018.

Thanks for the feedback. I'd be using as a weekend car so there's really two ways of going I guess. 1) by one with 10k miles for around 60k put very little miles on it (15k) and sell for maybe 50k 3yrs later with 25k miles. Or 2) buy one with 70 to 100k miles for 37k to 44k, hope that nothing goes wrong, and sell for 29 to 35k 3 years later.

I left out the option of spending 5k+ on a warranty (with the 10k mile option) because it's probably not worth it since I'll be using it as a weekend warrior.

btw..... the car in quesion is the same as this car: https://mbworld.org/forums/mercedes-...ck-series.html according to carfax it's been in an accident. also, the original poster (and private party seller) made a comment about how the frame was reinforced, "but there was no damage done" ...whatever that means

This post actually made me laugh

What the heck is going on

Is this BS a repository for classified C.I.A. documents

Or is the above post a sneak peak at the screenplay

for the next big Hollywood blockbuster

Dumb and Dumber 3 : The Used Car Salesmen

At least we know the last selling price was $28,250

If this BS turns up at Park Place Motors in Bellevue

I will not be suprised - even with a much higher price

tube --- Thank-You for your effort in this matter

CLK63 BS
Can't assume everyone in the market for a BS is on this forum. And generally speaking, salespeople tend to be either ignorant or indifferent to the fact that there are people monitoring the price. At the end of the day, they own it, so they set the price and can simply decline any offers at below their ask regardless of one's ability to demonstrate that it was selling for $X two months ago. Frustrating but it is what it is. Maybe it will sit for months like that black one in Houston. Were I in the market for one at this price, I'd PPI it thoroughly and probably be the happy owner of a BS with little risk of devaluation save for some catastrophic failure, which is a universal risk not specific to the BS. And I don't recall reading any posts discussing detonating engines in BS's. Great time to be in the market though - lots of maintenance history, price information and transparency, bottom of depreciation curves, lots of inventory at different price points, AND it's a great car. If only I had waited a few more years...

I decided to become a member of this forum

over the other MB forums because the members

seem more knowledgeable and to be truthful

more street savvy - ie. connected to the real world

The members of this forum know whats on

Carmax - Cargurus ect...

And this BS forum I feel is the best of the BS forums

that I am aware of

At $39,000 I was ready to fly to Fresno and set up

a P.P.I. at the local MB dealership

I made more than a few attempts to call all numbers

listed by the O.P. - never even got a voice mail

I am not aware of a member on this forum who has

viewed this BS in person

Besides myself - several other forum members have

had the chance to talk with the salesmen who were

answering the phones at the various venues this

BS has appeared at since its first listing

Everyone is told a different tale

My concern with this BS is the accident

and sub-frame "re-inforcement"

mentioned (carfax) by the O.P. (Parminter?)

in the original for sale thread

I do not think that we have heard the last

of this BS

Thank-You

If its next stop is the DFW Metroplex, I, and I'm sure some other locals here, could assist with the PPI by identifying competent independent shops and also perform a visual inspection w/you via skype. This of course presupposes that its not a competitively priced white or red one in which case we may be competing for the same car.

With almost a 100K on the odo and who knows what type of driving history, I'd also run a compression check on all 8 cylinders...small price to pay for piece of mind that top end of the engine is tight. Good luck.

2008 CLK63 AMG BS
100k BS secured

I had it delivered this past weekend. Had a full MB PPI done and recovered the full MB service records which had every service since new. Very disciplined MB serve owner. Lots of those records were missing off carfax which may have thrown some off. Took some work. Car is in fine shape, chips and scratches as you'd expect from 100k but I park it anywhere without a worry. Former owner left his Michael Jackson and Showtoons CDs in the changer.
