My first Mercedes

Hi guys, this my first Mercedes. I prefer Porsches and Audi's due to the vast amount of modifications available. I bought the CLS mainly because of the engine. The ECU is currently being re-programmed. This is the best "bang for the buck" of any ECU re-programming on any car that I know. This should hopefully give figures approaching AMG levels at about 5% of the cost. As you can see I have subtly modified the base CLS550.

looks great.

Get rid of all the inaccurate/misleading AMG badges. The car looks good enough not to need this unnecessary garnish

Congrats! Are all those badges really necessary? You don't even have a 6.3L engine, let alone an AMG.

I agree, the badge and the tuning do not make an AMG. It's like a phony Rolex.....simply a no no.

Car looks absolutely amazing, congratulations.

I think if you didn't want people to think you were in a 550 you can just debadge it. Fully debadged cars look so niiice, and AMG people rarely debadge because they love their AMG logo

Keeping it on the DL as a sleeper would be soooo cool.

The cf is too in your face for my tastes, the weave looks way too raw IMO. But the 6.3 AMG badge aue... the tail pipes and front fenders alone give it away.

But...

A few small AMG touches are lovely, though, like the badge in the grille I think that's pretty sweet. Reminds me of an S-Line style badge. Smoked tails look good too.

In my opinion, the AMG badge on the back is ok because in the Middle East Mercedes benz puts this badge also if it was not an AMG model but with AMG styling package, but all the other badges are not necessarily.

Once you debadge the car, that thing will look badass... Did you paint the calipers also?

Hmm.. Still no reply from the OP.

Perhaps you guys made him think that misbadging (is that a word?) a car is not as cool as he may think.

But I do agree, lose the damned AMG and 6.3 badges, skippy! They just turn you into a poser. What's worse, you will feel like a t00l when some kid in a lesser car blows your doors off. But hey, at least the kid will feel good about smoking a 6.3. HA!

Points well taken, I always respect my elders advice. I have debadged most of the emblems. My Honda friends still like the car. On another note has anyone lowered their car by modifying the Airmatic link. Specifically Adjustable Air Ride one the sponsors of this forum. Any thoughts?

I lowered my w212 550 using the Renntech lowering module,V3, its great. I can lower the car at each corner individually using my laptop, trick settup. Check out their website for you car.
Btw, nice that you can take the heat from all of us and respect it. Thats definitely pretty cool,,,,, now debadge..lol

I have considered lowering links, the RENNtech module and via Star Diagnostics. During a recent visit to a dealership, the service tech recommended the lowering links. BTW- He liked the module, but thought it was overkill. As for the Star method, he felt it may be too finicky.

A few weeks ago, I was in contact with one forum sponsor, but they did not have the CLS550 lowering links as of yet. Have you found anyone with them in stock?

Looks cool, but the badges bring it down to un-respectability. Otherwise, unique and interesting touches to the exterior. The blacking out of the top aluminum trim and keeping the bottom reminds me of some somewhat older school M-B's (W220, for example) which is interesting, I like the subtle tint on the tails (SUBTLE IS GOOD! Most people go so dark it looks stupidly cheesy), and did you color the middle of the front air dam in gray? Paint or wrap? Great mod there.

And finally, and this is coming from a guy who has every type of wrap on his car.... but IMO the wrap on the interior brings it down big time. Eliminating that elegant, high end glossy real wood for fake CF (Di Noc wrap) makes no sense to me, and IMO those CF wraps always look better on the exterior (the "fake CF that belongs on the back of a cell phone" becomes really apparent when you see it in a cars interior).

Edit: Did you add little LED's on top of the bumper LED's? If so major LED overkill though the little "dotted look" with the lights off (or not coming across on pics) looks kind of cool. And the grille (sans AMG logo) looks awesome.
