New CLS but no reverse camera guidelines?
New to this great forum. I read extensively here before i ordered my 218 in April. I Just took delivery of a 2013 CLS 550 with Parktronic, Active Lane Tracking, Plus 1 wheel package etc... But surprised to learn the reverse camera does not have guidelines? I have searched this forum and found lots of other people with the same surprise / complaint... But have not found the solution? Some of the lesser model 2013 MB's even have active guidelines. Can this issue be corrected? Software? Switch out the camera itself?

I have ordered the reversing camera on mine too. I was surprised that it was so basic and I expected more from a car like this and it looked quite difficult to judge with the distortion when reversing. I got it as the CLS is not good for rear visibility and it reduces the risk of reversing into an object or small child. Parktronic does a pretty good job though. I am going to have to watch that a pressure washer does not damage it too as its not that well protected.

The reverse camera is S*** I was pretty pissed to not have the guidelines. It's embarassing that MB would put something so basic in a 80k+ car

Funny, I never noticed, but now that it's mentioned I believe my parent's 12' ML350 has guidelines. FYI, my 11' GL450 does not have them either, nor did my 10' E550 or my parent's 11' E350! Strange which model does and doesn't have it!

I agree the solution must be a software reflash... someone on these boards might have a connection to the MB USA techies that will be able to offer the FIX!!!

The camera is fine, the car parks itself for christ's sake! guidelines aren't a big deal. You know how to park/drive don't you???
It's not JUST software, it's also some hardware that OUR COMMAND does not have. At the moment, a flash isn't possible since it requires a hardware module. Now, THAT'S stupid, not the lines.
Newer Merc's (barely newer) like my buddies SL63 '13 have a better COMMAND system with weather and more integration, etc.
I don't know why our COMMAND is a little inferior but there's nothing you can do about it.
You have a TT V8 under the hood, burn some rubber and enjoy this car. I certainly am and not giving a flying f- about the parking lines.

You can actually activate Internet in command through the engineering mode.
Press #,1 and the hang up key all at once and a popup menu for settings come up. Through there you can activate your Sirius weather or the Internet ( can't be iPhone because it uses a different Bluetooth system (PAN))

If you have driven with them you would know they are very useful when backing into tight spaces, parking garages etc. Many manufacturers include this feature as standard, including some lesser Merc models. Just sayin... Would be nice if there is a retro fit available. Yes it is a powerful car capable of burning rubber... so what. It is first and foremost a large Luxo-barge and in my estimation should include this basic technology, just as it should also include auto folding mirrors at least as an option. MB includes active guidelines and auto folding mirrors as standard content on many of their other models and on the ROW CLS. To not offer the available technology as an option seems a missed revenue opportunity.
PS my 2013 has the latest Comand platform available with MBrace2, Internet, Weather, Yelp, FB etc. None of this technology really has anything to do with "knowing how to drive" but hey they are occasionally convenient.

I had them on a $36k VW CC they were brilliant.
Reasons why I want them. The car won't reverse itself up the narrow, maybe 3ft wider than my car driveway with my house on one side and a 7ft fence on the other, the driveway is 150ft long and there is nowhere to turn, you either back in or out and its not parallel. I live in a downtown area of a city.
The camera angle is useful once I get to the garage but is to low during the reverse.
Otherwise brilliant car, loving it.

I just checked the new CLS brochure here and it is showing reversing camera with guidelines. Going to check with dealer if this is a software thing and can mine be upgraded. I am going to have to have a new Comand unit anyway as mine has cut out twice for hours at a time.

Dealer is updating software tomorrow on Comand fault rather than replace. Dealer also checking for update for camera guidelines. Hoping that as mine is latest 2013 build that it can be done. Will post after its in tomorrow. BTW saw new CLS shooting brake in dealer, looks nice.

No luck so far, dealer said that it was not available on my car when purchased. I did explain that but they were going to check with Mercedes when I asked yesterday. I have rung the main Mercedes number myself to see if it can be updated and they have gone back to the dealer I bought the car from and they thought I was complaining that they mis sold the car. Duh, so now I have explained to 4 different people and they are going to check again, I feel like I am going around in circles but its worth a go.

Looks like they sorted the guidelines for the launch of the Shooting Brake, the sales manager at dealer is driving the new shooting brake and he said that the guidelines are on that. Received message from MB to phone them ref update for parking guidelines. Will phone this morning and post update if any progress.

Please may we advise we have contacted our Technical Department regarding the guidance lines on the reversing camera on your vehicle. They have advised that this vehicle should not have guidance lines and unfortunately due to the software in the head unit this system cannot be retrofitted.
Looks like a no go. Not the end of the world but would have been nice.

LOL, so you saying chicks cant park? So why do us MEN have an automatic gearbox, electric seats, mirrors and windows, 2 zone heating, etc etc etc. Oops i forgot us MEN bought a Mercedes Benz and an expensive one at that.
As I said not the end of the world but would have been nice on a car that is supposed to have all the latest whizz bang technology.
