Did you get this done on Monday? Interested to hear what the deletes sound like with an x-pipe in there vs a straight pipe.

Sounds good under 3 4k rpm but quiets down in higher rpms. I'm curious on how muffler delete sounds with the huge resonator in place

I am actually interested in the x-pipe myself but I have no idea what the sound will be like and I haven't been able to find anyone who has done the x-pipe on the CLS550...

Really I want to increase the current sound to about 50% and no more than that...

I doubt there is much of a sound difference between x pipe and straight.. resonator delete will make the car sound more throaty around 1500-3500 rpm. Slightly louder, with a nice muscular sound. This is nowhere near the same as if you were to get different mufflers(my opinion way to loud). You wont be disappointed with whatever you choose, but honestly save the $$ and just do the straight pipes, any decent muffler shop can do this in an hour.

I was contemplating the idea of deleting the secondary cats also, they don't have 02 sensors so no worry about check engine light.. I think by deleting secondary cats and resonator this will give you the sound your trying to achieve.

Thank you you for all the info. I think worst case is just to go back to stock option but I highly doubt I will do that because the current sound does not match the v8 engine that is under the hood. I will have this done soon, once my wheels are delivered and installed...

I am actually planning to have it done today! Delete the resonator and run straight pipes since everyone is in favor of straight pipes instead of X or H pipes!

I used to have straight pipes and loved the sound on higher rpm's but on lower rpm's it sounds horrible from outside the car. I had people ask if there was something wrong with the car.. It makes a weird burble like boats do. I have the x pipe now and honestly it sounds almost the same.. Maybe ill make a custom exhaust using borlas or magnaflow see how that sounds

This made me change my mind about getting this done at my local muffler shop. So all you did is delete the resonator and run the straight pipes and the sound was pretty much horrible at the lower rpm's?

I'm a bit confused when I research this on other MB forums (other models). It looks like there are a couple options of things you could remove. Just want to verify which piece that folks are calling the resonator.

In the below link, I think its piece 11 and not pieces 5/6. Is that correct? And can anyone verify who has taken that piece out that piece 11 isn't joining like an x-pipe already?

My local shop just removed my resonator and installed in X-pipe. The sound is amazing and I haven't noticed any horrible/weird sounds at the lower rpm's. The sound kicks in at higher rpm's and it is just beautiful. This is how a V8 should sound. I will create another thread and post a recording to help out members who are interested in the x-pipe.

Nope only deleted resonator with straight pipe and did not like at all on low rpm's have an x pipe now and think it will sound perfect with some borlas replacing the stock mufflers

11 is the resonator, can be replaced with straight or xpipe.. 5/6 are secondary cats can also be replaced with straight pipe.

Most likely NO since there are no post-cat oxygen sensors.
