So, a shop I'm not familiar with, told me there's a leak in the oil filter cover housing. Could be the gasket, or could be the housing itself. I'm a little wary as I don't know the shop, and of course, it's 5 hours of labor at $150/hr. They showed me some oil in the belly pan, and dripping oil around the oil filter housing. Thoughts?
Thanks,
Rick
I would have the filter (with new o-ring) changed, clean up the surrounding area and watch what happens. Easy DIY and cheaper than jumping in without any real knowledge of what is the defect. Marv
As suggested you can simply replace housing cover 0-ring and monitor it. However, if shop is reputable most likely housing seal needs replacement, housing ($84 or less) and/or seal ($10 or less) replacement should take minimum about 3 hours or so.
Service scheduled 1/6. I may drop it off early as my rear suspension is deflating over 24 hours of sitting still. As to the oil, I decided to clean of the area and belly pan, and ensure the problem is real, and not from a nefarious service provider.
Just found new leak on my 14 CLS550. The leak appears to be from the front cam seal on the passenger side. Also appears to be leak from the oil filter housing assembly. I'm curious has anyone tried to replace there's, It doesn't look easy to get to. I'm mechanically inclined and replace the oil cooler seal and filter housing assembly on my 11 S550. Of course this engine is apples to oranges I know to that motor. Any help or thoughts I would be appreciative. Thanks.
