Yes most definitely, I have a set of drag radials mounted on clk aluminum wheels in case traction is an issue. You are more than welcome to run them. They do have a test and tune on the jan 30th, in case u get the bug earlier...lol

Like the plate btw!!

Yes same as c400/c450/c43amg. Any one of those will fit. I just have high flow filters not complete intake. I was on the fence about one of the set ups but was afraid of heat soak due to the design.

Tonight Blaise and I will give you guys a good example of Stage 1 tune vs I am guessing a Stage 2 + since Blaise has tune, downpipes, upgraded intake filters, and CLS63 mufflers. I am using tonight as a baseline for me.

Ok we had fun despite not getting the numbers we both expected. Blaise car for sure making more power than mine. I need to figure out the best way to launch the car. First run was right off idle and flooring. No wheel spin because I had traction control on. Cut a 2.34 60ft and ran a 13.3@107mph. Blaise pulled away and put at least 7 CLS's on me. Next pass we were unable to line up. I cut a 2.62 and ran a 13.8@106mph, brought her up to 2krpm and she bogged. Again traction control was on. Decided to make another pass and brought her up to 1500rpm and launched and cut a 2.1 60ft and ran a 13.1@107mph. Yes traction control was on. Next time I go I will have traction control off. I didnt know how to turn it off until Blaise showed me before we headed home. I have never pulled out the owners manual.

Blaise and I wanted to see how much of a difference in my Stage 1 to his more enhanced setup. So we took her out on the highway. We did a couple of pulls. Clearly he is making more power. Even when he gave me the hit he easily came around me and kept pulling until we let off. My guess from my experience is he's making between 50 to 100hp more than my setup. I did notice one odd thing when I floored her she didnt respond right away with a downshift and go. I floored, she thought about it, then downshifted and went. I did think the mph would be higher, but it is what it is. If I can improve my 60 ft the mph would go up. One 1.9 or 2.0 and I might be in the 12's. Regardless the times look very close to stock CLS550 per the below link. I will be going back in hopes of a 12 second pass.

At the track I was in sport mode. On the highway I was in economy mode. I didnt use manual mode because I didnt want to watch the rpm and then shift.

same here, Hunters creek, and def trying to hit the track before the tune just to see stock vs tune numbers . Seems like a few guys in the central Florida area, we should get together sometime to hit the track. I can’t wait to get my tune just don’t know who I’m going to go with. Great thread and happy to see you enjoying the tune from oe.

Definitely a lot of fun. I wasn't doing well either, i believe the density altitude was very poor as well. These rwd are a pain to launch! I ran 12.6,12.7 and almost hit the wall in dyno mode due to wheelspin..

You guys should go...better on the track instead of street. Plus we can roll up 4 cls's deep...lol

Hi to y'all from the R230 - SL forum

Vince99frc,

I'm about to seal the deal on a CLS400 just like yours (even same color) and was wondering about the tune itself - does it require a higher tier gas? i live in Cali and we have usually 87/89/91 octane gas. I see someone mentioned 93 octane in the thread. is it required for the tune?

The tune is based on your fuel. Part of the process is you answer a few questions. One of the questions pertain to the octane levels in your area. You want to run the highest octane where you live.

I can't find not one gas station in central Florida or the Orlando area that sells 100 octane. gas. I have what I call the "useless" file from OE that came with my tune but can't even try it since I can't find the gas!

Anyone knows what would happen if I use 100 octane tune with the 93 octane gas?

Vince,

That would make sense. I will contact OE tuning and talk to them.

About the octane level - yup, we have only 91 in Cali. There probably are gas stations somewhere here that will have higher tier gas, but probably is so rare it doesn't worth even mentioning it. On the other hand I've heard that Cali has a bit higher quality of the gas itself 🤷🏻‍♂️ how much of that is true - no clue...

Also about running 100 octane on a 93 ECU - nothing bad will happen immediately from what I know,l. You might have some gains in power but you increase the knocking chances of the engine, which is pretty bad. And it might wear and tear faster some internal parts of the engine not made to run on such hight octane gas. For a short term period you'll be fine, but I wouldn't use it often or continuously.

If you're talking about 100 octane tune on a 93 tier gas - that probably is just a waste of money, since you most likely will have loss in power and the engine might throw a few error codes at you I'm not a specialist on that but had a chance to talk with some.

Regards,
Ghostty

I live in Florida and some select Sunoco's carry 100 octane. You will have to do a search. Personally I would not trust it because you dont know how long it's been sitting. Not many purchase 100 octane. So it sits. In St. Pete there is ONE station I trust off Park Blvd and 49th street. 95% of the racers go through them. At some tracks they have race gas, but also, it sits and has the chance of getting water. I dont think they get inspected often. The tanks that is. ME!! I will purchase mine from a race gas distributor. You can actually order in 5 gallon pales online and they will deliver to your door. The tuners are tight lipped about how much actual boost and timing. I would not run the 100 octane tune with 93 octane fuel. UNLESS you have excess money to blow on a new engine. I know some of you are RICH. You have 5 CLS400s and want to use one as a race car. Me? I do ok. I dont want to be paying payments on a car I am buying a new engine for. Now if OE has any tune updates for 93 octane that will get me to 525hp safely. Of course I will take it. However, I would like to be able to take it back to stock when I go to the dealership.

The OE Tunes I have are Valet, 91CA Octane and 93 Octane. We don't have 93 here in CO and many times I run the 91CA tune without problems using 87 Octane. I know I'm not getting the full value of the tune when I run 87, but it makes sense $$ wise. It only takes a few minutes to change back to the Mercedes tune if you need dealer service. I would NEVER go to the dealer with a tune on my car, don't want to be blacklisted as category 8. Marv
