Vrp downpipes

Sup everyone, so long story short, I bought some VRP DPs for my cls550. There was a disclaimer on the website about you have to cut the flanges that come with the DP off and install smaller diameter flanges, because they dont fit the m278.

I contacted them about this, and asked them can the OEM flange be used, and they said yes.

So i got the DPs in, and realize, how do you even get new flanges on the DP? Its a solid chunk of metal, and there literally would be no way to get the flanges on there without them being split.

I feel kinda dumb, but if any one of yall can gimme some insight on what could be done here, I would really appreciate it. I dont want to even try to install the DPs if it cant be done, and i will return them instead.

Here is the website so yall can see what they look like. I would post a picture, but my phone keeps freezing everytime i try to upload through this damn tapatalk app lmao.

Bob, I wouldn't fool with them, they're pulling a fast one by saying they fit a 278 engine. THEY should do any mods before they ship them to you. Just my 2 cents worth, Marv

I don't know of a way to de-flair the end of those pipes, so I'm assuming you need to cut the end of the pipe off w/flange, and weld on the same short section w/smaller flange from your existing DPs.
Frankly, since VRP markets these as being also for the M278 engine, they should have their fabricator do some of these with the appropriate flanges instead of expecting their customers to pay big money for something they need to extensively modify to make work. I'd look for another supplier.

I unfortunately already gave them my money marv 😭 im thinking of either returning them, or calling around a few exhaust shops to figure out what can be done, because VRP incurs a 20 percent restocking fee :/

I unfortunately already bought them, im thinking about returning them, but its a 20 percent restocking fee, which at that point is gonna be close to 250 bucks lol. I should have done my homework, but alas here i am 😭

Yeah, Bob, that sucks the big one! Their notice of needing to alter their product that they say fits, is prob not noticed by most people at the bottom of the page. Total BS. A muffler shop might be able to swedge them down. Give someone a call and see if they can. As far as VRPSpeed, everyone here should boycott them. They need to own up to the product they're selling, it should fit without a customer modifying it. Have you asked to talk with the owner of the business? File a claim with the Colorado Springs BBB.

I have emailed them regarding this, but i Dont expect them to help because i should have thought this through lol, but alas my hastiness has led me here lmao!

I was taking to a friend of mine who got custom DPs made for his cls550, and he recommended not to cut up the Stainless steel DPs that vrp sent to install the correct size flanges. So i came to these split flanges, hopefully they do the job, if not im **** outta luck lol.

I got vrp cold air intake and they don’t fit right, like the design is definitely off and after some of my own modifications I got it too work but a total pain in the *** but before anything I would take to a fabricator and see what they say, might not be that crazy after all. My .02
