Best MP3/iPod solution for me at least in the 2004 E55, is to:
1. hardwire an iPod to the AUX input, through a $40 Belkin Auto Kit (with built in line out), this way, your iPod automatically pauses when you take the key off the ignition. Most cigarette lighter adapters don't have this auto-pause feature.
2. Add a $15 Radioshack Ground Loop Invertor to remove the hisses and electronic interference.
3. Get a $40 RF RemoteRemote2 with keyfob remote for play and skip/repeat track, so that you can completely hide away the iPod. You can mount the keyfob remote anywhere on the dash (I had it in my ashtray). Since the RemoteRemote2 operates by RF (Radio Frequency), line of sight is not required.

Even better answer...
Wait a month or so and have the MB-IPOD control added to your car.
This way you can change channels and see what's playing on your dash.
