Best Method to remove Rear CLS lip installed with double sided tape.

I have decided that the rear lip installed on my CLS with heavy duty double sided tape which came with the lip needs to be taken off and redone because its not completely centered. I'd like to get a few clues on the best way to remove the tape.

Try calling/or going to a bodyshop. A hair dryer with a thin razor blade type stripper may work if used very carefully. Have removed double sided tape from graphite chassis' of R/C cars with this method (and some citrus based cleaner) but absolutely 0 experience with an automobile finish. Good luck.

bashy,

May I ask you a question? How come the passenger side looks okay but the driver side is off? Is the spoiler actually little short or what?

Thanks,
hlkc

the AMG deck lid is not full length, if u look closely on AMG, theres about a 1/4" on each side, so u need to center it, not put one end flush.

adam76,

Thanks! Are you getting the AMG deck lid? I want to get the deck lid and Carlsson lip spoiler install together.

Thanks,
hlkc

Thumbs up Floss...

The detailing thread about removing badges gives lots of excellent pointers.

Regular old waxed dental floss works to get in under the tape and a plastic putty knife helps as well; neither will hurt the finish. Goo-gone is pretty good to get rid of the adhesive residue.

Good luck and enjoy the ride,
Greg

im most likely doing the deck lid, ill order it, then take a final look b4 sticking it, if i dont like it, ill sell it. ive been having a lot of second thoughts on the RS lip. its pricey for not much show, and it makes the front end look a little clunky, i like the seemless front lip of the AMG kit.

I know this has been around before, but what do you think of the 3 piece?
I saw one on a black Brabus the other day and it looked good, but appeared to chop up the flow of the rear a tad. Oh yea, asking price on this baby was $134,900
