CLS500 (2006) Question

Hi All:

I am new to the forum and find it quite informative. The question I have is that when I am about to come to a stop, using slight pressure on the brakes, the car will lurch forward. It feels that it is down shifting. The car is not even a week old. Car is in Drive position and Comfort selection.

Does any one have the same problem?

Happy Thanksgiving to all.

This may be your transmission getting to "know you". When I test drove one, it did the same thing. Is your ESP light on? This is all the experience I have with the 7 speed.

Hi Traumadoc:

Thanks for replying. Nice picture of the cat. I have 3 that have been rescued.

Update: Today the car was taken to MB service. Long story short, the tranmission needs to be replaced due to a missing part. The car is not even a week old, but have seen emails concering tranny problem. Still it is an awesome car.

Hmmmm... Maybe the one we test drove had a missing part as well. We were slowing while going up a hill and the same thing happened. That is one of the reasons we looked at the CLS55 insread. Different transmission.

We love the styling of the CLS. What color did you get?

We have 4 cats. One was a rescue from the Orlando poundalmost 15 years ago. The one in the photo is our "wild child".

Enjoy your car!

I have had my CLS 500 for 6 months and thought the clunky downshifts were just an unfortunate aspect of the 7 speed. You cause me to wonder if there is something defective w/ my car. Heard anymore about this? Has a dealer or the factory ack'd a problem?

I would have it checked out. My CLS needed the transmission changed because of a missing part.

My CLS and several others on this forum had this same problem. It turns out it was the adaptive learning in the computer trying to learn your driving pattern. When you get you CLS back, please find out what the missing part is and give us an update. I'm curious to know if the dealership will tell you exactly what part it was, or just tell you it was just a tranny part.

SEPT 2005 CLS 320CDI,
My CLS went in for a new ECU + Gearbox software last week because of the, lurching and in some instances body jarring up and down shifts, I have covered about 1000 miles since and should now be stable, however i am still finding under braking that the shifts are very heavy and clunky although improved from where it was, my understanding was this was a new hot off the PC software fix. still some way to go, my understnding is several patches have been released and now the patches are combined with ECU patch to get a better solution.

My engine is the 320cdi v6 diesel so the software may differ in release date to petrol models.
