Hardly beat G35 Coupe
Joined VQ35DE club meet last weekend.
CLS350 is about the performance of G35 Coupe (5AT)
in quarter mile, a little faster than G35 sedan.
dead even and I'm satisfied by 180 Kg heavier than G.
On the highway, CLS350 can walk G35 away slowly in above 120 mph.
Hitted 156 mph on the speedo when having fun with G35C
Pretty much close MB_M272 vs Nissan_VQ35DE performance wise.

you are rght! it would be a disgrace. If you buy a mercedes, buy a 500 or amg, other wise, its better off going for a lexus or audi.

What about those 4 banger E200K. Do they have to send to land refill? You guys are harsh. You're lucky to be in the US where the cars are priced at least half as cheap as other countries.

People in US also dont realize how cheap their car/gas is...
I paid US$100k for fully loaded CLS350 & US$5.00+ per gallon for gas.
For those who bash CLS350....
Think about it, G35c is pretty fast coupe, and heavier and less HP CLS350 out runs G35. (CLS350 still does 0-60mph in 6 sec range)
It is still fast enough to be called sports 4 door coupe.
There was a reason that I did NOT like CLS500.
CLS350 holds very good value between performance and gas milage, not to mention it is much more efficient than old school 5.0 V8.
(FYI : CLS350 = 272hp, CLS500=302hp.)
CLS500 is marginally faster but compromises gas milage too much.
I just dont like the idea of MB putting almost 10 years old, low HP V8 on brand new CLS platform...

and I definitly would have bought that.(which soon to be replace old 302hp V8...bad news for CLS500 owners...)

You probably know the car price benchmark around the world but we won't buy that soon to phase out 5.0 SOHC just because Americans admire it.
In the states,if the CLS500 hold good resale value, it's still
a good buy and don't care about the new DOHC.

MB offer new 3.5 engine to Asia with both performance and fuel economy and purge outdated inventory 5.0 to the states.
W/O Americans,MB enthusiasts can't benefit the new 5.5 DOHC in W211/W219 by 2006.

Guys come on, let's not compare apples and oranges here. A MB CLS will always be a MB CLS and there is nothing that we could compare to that. MB's are not "REALLY" designed to be faster with all of the competition but what MB has is its finesse and style on its own. It has its own unique appeal that satisfies some customer and they don't care if they're beaten by some other cars (unless of course you bought a CLS55 for one very reason, to blow away the competition). It may be a bit slower (CLS 350 & CLS500) compared to the other cars but look at the bright side, not everyone could afford it and in some countries, mind you, its freaking expensive. When you live in HK or Singapore, god, you're buying a CLS350 for the price of a fully loaded CLS55 in US. That's for me though if you agree.

by the way guys i pay 13$ to fill up my e-240 class with the best availble unleaded fuel . i think i will pay like 16$ for my new cls . and i LIVE IN KUWAIT . but for me cls 350 have enoughf hourse power since that i was satisfied with 185hp i think 272 is fare enoughf since that i am not looking to race with it other wise iwould easy bought cls-500 but of you think of it i would pay more for fuel take it easy guys i know it cheap over here but i don't want to go to the gas station every 2 days or so :P . how much again to fill up and 60 gal ??? :P :v

Benz is benz even with a weak engine. Benz is not about speed (only AMG is), Benz is about pure luxury which you can get in your E200K or CLS350. Not all of MB owners are racing drivers....some of them dont really care about speed nor about torque. Every benz is benz!

2006 CLK 350
I almost got the G35 Coupe over the CLK350.
It is a nice car. Especially for the money. My daughter wants one. She startes driving tomorrow and for now she has a C230 Coupe.
Thus far I have been happy with the CLK350 decision.
