Question CLS Fog Light

Guys, how do you change the fog light? My indicator popped up and said the fog light is out on the left side. I searched around and NO ONE seems to have answered this. Any help on this would be great, I can get the bulb (H7) but wanted to be sure of how to change it. Thanks!

Cool Answer coming....

An answer is coming. I really do think we should have a How to do... sticky. How to do certain simple things on the CLS, such as air filters, change fog lights, and other bulbs, along those lines. No use paying a dealer for simple stuff, I do think.

Niice~ the air filters are easy stuff, right joey? hehe. then fog lights..no idea...headlights are really easy, even converting from non-xenon to aftermarket(which i did, 10,000k HID!)

A lot of times if u are good with your dealer/service rep/tech. They wont even charge u for simple stuff, assuming it doesnt take a really long time.

Cool Where's the how?

Ok, but HOW do you change the air filter? I imagine you would take off the engine cover and then get to it? That's what I am getting at, we need to post thew how to instruction part on these things.

How to change foglights?
How to change headlamps?
How to change air filters?
How to change cabin filter?

That's along the areas, with the instructions and even pics if possible?

SORRY GUYS IT TOOK ME SOO LONG! ok well to replace the foglight bulb you will have to remove your belly pan, then after thats out of the way unplug the light. then the bulb will just twist to the right and it will come out no problem. when reinstilling it just do put it in and twist to the left. then reinstall ur belly pan.

Ok to change the air filter. what you will do is pull off the 2 ducts going in to the intake
then pull up and the front black plasticks will come off but dont yank on them they are only held in by clips. just pull up!. then you have the main intake box. all you will have to do is push the clip holing it in the back. then pull the whole intake up. really not that hard. then you will need a 25 torks head. undo all the bolts around and replace the filters. then just reinstall. just make sure when you put the intake box back down that you have it fully on the throttle body!

Wink Awesome

Thanks Joey, after taking my car in to get the ipod integration kit installed, which was pretty cool since I bought the kit off ebay, I saved about $300.

After talking with service manager he told me how to change the lights, which is right on with what you said Joey! Thanks! He also told me how to check the service intervals, what is showing to be done, etc through the steering wheel controls. Now I have a solid idea as to costs to get things done when my service interval is up.

On the air filters Joey, again thanks. I am debating on whether I should just stay with stock or use K&N. I see a lot of debates on filtration and MAF sensor issues. I have used K&N since forever in my E320, and since my 300M had just 60 miles on it new. I never had any problems, and had some performance gains of course, but there again the CLS has a lot of technology in it. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Most k&n and the MAF Issues are when you reoil the filters. i have been using K&N for years now on all of the benz's i have owned never one problem. you just have to becareful when you reoil them!

Lightbulb Yep..

Just what I figured. I have had K&N's for years, but that was on my E320 and my 300M. I always followed the instructions on oiling them, so this should be cool. Do you have K&N's on your CLS? Make any difference?

Smile Btw

On that changing the lightbulb on the fogs, Mercedes wants $20 for the light, $80 for labor. So...that's $100, for a 10-15 minute job, and a bulb that costs around $15 at the parts store. I can handle that one myself I think...

I find it ridiculous that your dealer wants to charge you to change a bulb! Although technically not considered covered under warranty, I have had bulbs replaced to my previous e320 and the CLS at no cost – as a courtesy to keep my business. You should revisit this with the service manager unless of course you would rather do it yourself.

Smile Hmm..

That may be a good idea, but here in Georgia prices for cars are absolutely crazy. That's why I don't like to buy cars here, and got mines out of state. Courtesy as you mentioned to retain service could be much better. However, everything seems to be a charge. That seems to be at most of all dealers, and shops especially on high-end cars. Simply because you have a Benz, BMW, etc, does not mean you should be raped for service.

The Buckhead Mercedes location wanted $925 to install an iPod kit, if I had the kit myself and wanted them to install, $625. WTF? I then went over to RBM, they installed my kit for $320. A three hundred dollar difference??

For instance, to stick on a lip spoiler that I bought the Buckhead Butler tire wanted $350 to stick it on. I spoke with one of the install guys, and he said he would stick it on for nothing, don't worry about it. Is that insane or what?

The moral is, it pays to shop around and NEVER EVER EVER (did I say ever) act like money is no object. Learned that from one of my mentors who is worth millions and haggles on a car remote for $100 bucks. LOL.

I may be a little , but it is frustrating sometimes especially since I am a business owner and extend much courtesy to my customers. I guess that's why they refer and come back to me?

Totally agree~ some shops do need some business ethic training. I understand the need to turn a profit, but charging ridiculous amount of money for a simple task is just wrong.

PS - Lip spoiler, the trunk lip spoiler with 3M tapes? $350 for installing that? WOAH!

Oh, Joey, thanks for the post on the foglight, im gonna do that when i get my car on the lift when my wheels come in this friday or early next wk =)

Wink Thanks!

I will be working on the light Monday, and take a look at the air filter. Thanks for the replies, I still think we should have a hot to sticky though on some of the simple stuff. Ideas?

Smile Learning...

You know this has been a learning experience. Not only was the part number wrong for the bulb, my bulb was not bad. The connector was loose, and the bulb's are H11's not H7's. Done, took about 30 minutes due to figuring the bolts for the belly pan, very easy to do.
