Lowering module, what's best?
What is the best way to lower a 06 CLS? I have been reading about all types, blocks, dremeling, modules, etc.. What is the best? I just want to eliminate some of the fender gap I got now with the 20's and the low pros. I want whatever is the smoothest ride. Thanks in advance.

I know your question is about modules but I'm using lowering links. Probably not the best solution but I can adjust the front and rear to any height desired. Installation can be done by just about anyone with basic tools in less than an hour... took me 33 mins start to finish.
Also links do not require any cutting/drilling modifications to the car and you can still adjust the vehicle's height from the dash for driveways, speedbumps, etc. Additionally, it can be brought back to stock relatively quickly if needed and at about $350 including shipping, the cost is a fraction of the electronic module prices.
The more expensive "electronic" option requires splicing a control module into your electrical system that controls the height. This is considered by most as the "best" as the module is more accurate in providing uniform height front to back, side to side.
There is also a lower/no cost option that involves the use of washers in the front and re-mounting the rear height sensor. Since I haven't used either of these methods, I can't give any comment on how well they work.
Also your local MB dealer has the ability to adjust the height settings but most won't do it for liability reasons.
Others may not agree but based on cost, the ease of install and flexibility to change it back to factory with basically a wrench and screwdriver, the lowering links were a no-brainer for me.
If you do a search on lowering you should find enough info on the different options to help you make a decision. Hopes this helps

I think the Star system seems like the best, easiest way for me to go. Anybody know of any dealers or shops in SoCal (San Diego if possible) that will do the job at a good price?

The star diag systen would be the way to go. Takes approx. 1 minute & 61 seconds! no time at all, but like someone mentioned earlier, GOOD LUCK! Most service dept's will NOT do it for you for whatever reason. Some folks have gotten it done at no charge at all. Your best bet would be to get in real good with some at the dealer/svc dept and get it done during your next service, but they may still charge you X amount of dollars.

I was told
I was told that even though they can lower it thru the star diagnostics, that the car would adjust itself back up by itself. sounds strange but i heard this from a couple of different people.

I've ridden in cars with modules and links before. They both feel the same. If you are using the factory struts and eliminating the amount of suspension travel, all lowering methods should give you the same ride quality. Please correct me if I am wrong.
I have always done links on all my cars just simply bacause of the ease of installation and removal. You can set it to the exact height you want. I never fealt the need to spend 1K or more on a module. The lower you go, the firmer it rides.
If you are in Northern California, I can refer you to a place that does the links with installation for only $380 out the door.

Need help with the lowering links please...
To any of you who have installed the lowering links from adjustableairride.com, how did you manage to free the upper end of the rear stock link. The instructions suggest a long screwdriver which I will get tomorrow, but I still don't see how that is going to work. I spent the last couple of hours using every tool I have, but nothing is making the slightest bit of progress. Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Not to drag up an old thread but this was linked to a recent question. The star works fine on the 550 I have an 08 cls my girlfreind drives and I lowered it using the star. A 1 1/2 is standard but if you adjust the voltage on the sensors you can go 2+" we did 2 1/4" on hers and a simple reflash and its back to OEM.

The rear link is a PIA to get off...and installing the new one is only slightly easier. If you use a long flat-head screwdriver (18 inches) along with a slight twist on the plastic link, it should pop right off. It's pretty tight but it is possible, you just have to take your time. Also don't tighten the locknut on the link too tight...if you do, you will need to take the whole thing off to adjust if the ride height is too low or too high. Good Luck!
