Disable SBC for pad replacement
I have read the posts regarding the disable procedure with and without a scan tool. The procedure without seems quit involved. Question: Can we just disconnect the batteries and proceed with the brake job?

the easiest and best way to disable sbc is to disconnect it under the hood at the unit. just pull up on the tab for the electrical connector and the connector slides off the unit. then reinstall the connector when finished and pump the brakes before starting.

See attachment below for Mercedes Procedure "Disable SBC self-test and apply brake pads, without STAR DIAGNOSIS" for the 2006 CLS. FYI to others SBC is on the 2006 CLS models, but not installed in subsequent years.

Are there any problems with warning lights or codes after disconnect and reconnect?

I did the front pads today. Installed Monroes and they stop great, no noise. I do have one reamaining question. The disable procedure states the brake light will flash 3 times to signal successful reactivation. I didn't get the three flashes, but instead got a steady brake light on after the 50 second waiting period. The brakes did activate during the time when I was turning the left front wheel. The brakes are working great and no warning lights. Is it possible the 3 flashes are for some models and steady lights on for others?

SBC didn't hibernate before I changed rear pads on my 03 SL350
Hi,
Can anyone help. I thought I had switched off the SBC before changing my rear pads, now I have the dreaded red warning and constant beeping. Have I damaged the unit? Noticed the fluid had dropped below min also.
Thanks

Try to open/close door a couple of times. Also lock/unlock the car. The SBC unit checks/cycles the system under certain conditions (like unlocking the car, opening the door etc).
Fyi, I recently upgraded the brakes and I only disconnected the big connector on the SBC unit. If you dont open the doors etc during the time the connector is loose, it wont throw errors.
