Best year(s) for CLS550
I am selling my CLK320 and looking for a CLS550. Has there been a thread for comparing the different years CLS550's? Any advice is appreciated.

No response on which year CLS550???
Last week I posted a question asking which year/years are the best for the CLS550....I am just starting my search to purchase one (I sold my CLK320 and I still have my CLK500).
I have had over 200 looks and ZERO replies....Is this a difficult question?
I am a member of Rennlist (for my Porsche habit) and have never seen a zero response to a question like this.
Am I mistaken about fellow MBZ owners????

2006 CLS 500
Hey man...honestly i love 2006 CLS 500....had 3 of them and not even a single problem... i live in OR and drive all seasons....i had a very good luck with cls500....but 550's from what i heard are a sack full of problems !....do reserch here and see how many people having prblems with 500"s and 550"

I would say that your budget will be your guide. As far as I am aware, all 550s are basically the same. '07 and '08 really are the same, I think. Different wheels may have been offered for '08. '09 brought a slight facelift, with a different grille, new steering wheel (the biggest improvement, IMO), updated COMMAND system, new rearview mirrors (the old ones were prettier, IMO), new full LED tail lights, and restyled tailpipes and rear bumper (I like the earlier oval tailpipes more than the newer rectangular or trapezoidal tailpipes). I am not sure what was done for the '10 and '11 model-years. If the price is your primary concern, I would look for the best combination of price, mileage, and condition in an '07 or '08 (I just paid a month ago $36,800 for an '07 with the P2 package and electronic trunk closer with 23,000 miles in perfect condition from a BMW dealer). I don't think I would bother with a '10 or '11. If you really want the facelifted version, I would stick with an '09, and I would look to spend somewhere between $45,000 and $48,000. The '10 and '11 are still probably too much to be worthwhile. They will likely take a bit hit when the new one comes out this summer. Hope this was at least somewhat helpful. Where did you get your info at? Because I have never read 550 having tons of probs.

I also have a 2003 CLK500 (the first one delivered in California) that has had a host of problems....getting it sorted took the first 6 years, and with the kind help of my local MBZ dealer, most of the work and costs were covered by extending the warranty (the called it "good will"). It is a great driver and has under 50k miles. I am considering the CLS as an additional car. I drove a 2008 a few day ago and it was a fine drive, although it feels heavier than the CLK500.
I am concerned with the statement that the 550's have been problematic. Any additional info regarding "problems" would help with the quest.

I think you have plenty of choices out there but I would suggest any of the CLS550s would be a good fit. Of course the newest you can afford is always a good suggestion. The MY09+ are virtually identical except for some equipment which was made standard here and there. The same can be said for MY07-08. I would avoid the MY06 CLS500 unless you find a great deal. Only a few reasons and none are probably deal breakers but the MY07+ CLS benefitted from a number of upgrades which were made to the E-Class when it was facelifted in MY07. This includes a new braking system, new motor as well as various electronic upgrades. I have never heard of serious problems regarding any of these models but the engine and the brakes of the MY07+ would be the driving factor from my perspective. Therefore< i would rank as follows. #1 MY09/10/11 - slight facelift and newer HDD based COMAND, #2 MY07-08 - brakes, engine etc, #3 MY06. Good Luck
