Running in
Collected my new ride on Tuesday and very happy with it. Typical though, the first day I have it and we get snow on what has been the mildest and wettest winter in decades!
I've not had the chance to put my foot down in it yet, as I can't take it over 4,500 rpm and 85mph or kick down during the running period for the first 1k miles (1,500km). After this, the instruction is to build up things gradually. What does this actually mean?? It's pretty vague. Should I keep it under 5.5k rpm for another 500 miles and then 6.5k rpm for another 250?
Any thoughts appreciated and I'll post a few pics when the weather is next half decent.
Thanks

What Vic said, let the oil get to temp and then give it some gas, not so much hammer it but let it go to redline for a moment and slowly backoff...
You'll seat the rings etc.....
The more mileage ya get the quicker you can let it build revs and by 2500 miles or so... just nail it

But again, if you plan to keep it for any length of time, ALWAYS LET THE OIL get to temp before you hammer it

I've seen so many people on Harleys where I live that pull out of a bar and go write to redline then wonder why their new $40k CVO blew up....

Not the best analogy, but I'm reminded of Buffet's caution "never ask a Barber if you need a haircut".
