What's Wrong With The Edition 1?
After driving a GTS on COTA, I'd love to have one, but I have to ask, why are 19, or 28% of the Edition 1's currently up for sale on AutoTrader? Is it a terrible road car? Do 28% of owners hit the lottery or dire straights in under a year? Why don't people keep and use the Edition 1?
Any thoughts would be great to hear, especially from previous owners if they still lurk here.
My money says they won't appreciate but the SLS might.
Do you have any links pointing to how many there really are out there?
With that said, I think this particular car was more a purchase for their own aesthetic, not as an appreciating asset. And maybe it could be driven and enjoyed for awhile without losing too many bucks.
My 2.

I have an ED1 and in no way or form did I buy it expecting an appreciating asset. I bought because it was an amazing drive: sound, power, chassis, steering, suspension, and interior luxury. Its just the best AMG Ive ever owned (had or have 9). The balance of the car along with the RWD dynamics but with a 53% rear bias makes it almost feel like an AWD car. The look of the ED1 is better than the standard GTS IMHO with the AMG aerodynamics, fixed rear wing and carbon fiber roof. Of course this was all last year's news (got mine in May) and now ED1 parts are on the order sheet at dealers.
But with that being said, the ED1 cars held their own when it comes to the dreaded AMG depreciation up until most recently. Values at the auction in q4 of last year and q1 of this year were quite strong (holding above triple net of the 144k msrp) and only recently with the ability to build your own GTS with ED1 parts has the market slightly softened up.
