Audio system upgrade help needed for 2016 AMG GTS

I know some of you have made some speaker/sub improvements to the AMG GTS. I was hoping to get more specifics about the speakers, subs, etc. that was added. I have a 2016 AMG GTS Edition 1 with the standard Burmeister system that's quite disappointing. For those who have made changes, can you comment on exactly what was changed and post some pics. I'd like to keep the same interface and just improve on the sound in terms of treble, bass, and midrange. Also I'd like some more sound behind me and not just a forward centric sort of sound field. I would like to keep the appearance of the car as stock as possible and maintain the COMAND interface. I would also appreciate comments on the budget to make this happen.

thanks!

Open up that right wheelwell

Impressive sound in the interior: Externed Coupled Subwoofer

The Burmester surround sound system and the Burmester high-end surround sound system ensure a very special musical experience in the AMG GT Roadster. Both systems benefit from an innovation developed jointly by AMG and Burmester: the Externed Coupled Subwoofer (ECS). This new bass sound reproduction system with an extremely low bass range turns the open two-seater into a mobile concert stage.

Instead of a subwoofer box of limited dimensions, ECS uses the entire interior as a bass box. This is made possible by a special aperture in the right rear wheel arch. The subwoofer is connected to the bodyshell via this aperture, transmitting the impressive sound.

I like what kumizi did and I will likely do the same.

"JL 10TW3 in a custom box, JL 5 channel amp, Audison Bit Ten, and the adapter needed to work with the stock electronics all into the passenger side of the hatch where the stock sub is

We also put Focal 3 ways in the stock locations up front as the car came with 3ways factory."

The interface used was a JL audio fix 82.

Thanks for the link. I wonder if the comment about the lack of subwoofer applies to the GT. I thought it came with one in the right rear footwell.
I already have a sub and an amplifier ready to be placed back there and love the information about the interface

Hey,
If you use bluetooth, go first to options > volume > change from standard to boost. This will change dramatically the sound. If you are using CDs or connecting your smart phone directly to the system, then this function does not show up. Let me know if it works. I also own a Jag F-Type and must say that the lack of speakers behind the seats is a major deficiency in this car. Even worse, the divide is hollow, so they could have done it easily. Let me know if this works. Now the audio system is at least acceptable to me. But I agree this is not the best, especially considering the audio system in my little Honda Fit seems better.

Where is the "Options" button I do not see it?

If are connected to bluetooth and see the music track, the bar menu right below shows options on the left; on the right you see the little music note that gets you to the equalizer, which I sure you are familiar. Let me know if it works. A

If you want a removable option, you can also use the 6 or 8 inch SAS Bazooka tube.
the powered version fills in a gap that is created and overall improves the imaging of the sound without a lot of modification.
It is not an audiophile solution, but will work.

I'm hoping someone can help me. I have a 2015 S550 Coupe. I have the standard Burmester. My friend has hooked up subs and amps in all my cars. Lots of MBs, Porsche, Phaeton, Jaguar. But for some reason, this particular car we can't get bass to come out of the aftermarket sub. He tapped every speaker wire coming out of the factory amp. No luck. There is some sound coming from the sub, but it sounds like voices versus bass. If there is bass it's so negligible that it's like I never hooked up an aftermarket sub.

I can't help but think the Burmester is doing something strange. Somehow it's not allowing that sub to kick. So my friend says, no problem if we can tap a speaker directly we're good to go. Unfortunately getting access to a speaker on this car is not easy, and I'm not ready to let him start taking my car apart.

I have a Alpine 500W amp
I have the PAC line converter
JL Audio Slotted Box (I think 10 inch)

Any ideas? We did test the amp and sub and it worked. So it has to be something with the Burmester.

Is that just acting as a line out converter? If so, I've seen others using:
Amazon Amazon
LC2i which is much cheaper. Or are you saying it needs to be the JL FIX 82. I've done factory integrations on other cars and it typically just goes...

Connect amp to power source
Connect line out converter to speaker leads off factory amp
RCA from line out to aftermarket amp
Connect sub to amp
Thump thump

Trying to understand why I need to shell out $400 for this JL if it's just acting as a fancy line out converter?

Thanks for the quick reply, an AMG GT is on my list for one day!

I can't comment on the standard Burmester, but with the High End, the system is quite amazing. I stream Tidal Hi-Fidelity (when signal allows), and with tweaking options for boost, it is delightful. I have noticed with normal audio (not Hi-Fi) the system isn't very loud and almost sounds muffled at times. For me, it's all about what's being put into the system.

I don't know much about this stuff but my installer used the JL Audio Fix 82 on my GTS. Have aftermarket speakers, amps, sub and sound processor. Didn't run into any problems.

The same installer used the LCi2 on my 2009 Z06 way back in the day. But he has used the Fix 82 on my newer cars.

I put mine in line with the front subs, am in for chemo so my memory might be off. I have a wiring diagram for the sedan if that's of use. I bought the burmester 3d subwoofer and tried connecting it to the burmester 3d amplifier using its dedicated amplifier but suffered too many issues so connected it with a Rockford Fosgate one and ran a twoddle to the centre console. My car was ripped apart to do this.

Thank you guys. UrBusted: What do you mean you put it in line with the front subs, and what's a twoddle? And I'm sorry to hear about the chemo.

Is the upgraded sound system noticeably better than regular standard system?

It is much better. I lived with both, first in a GTS and now in a GTC (a year and a half in each). Burmester High-End Surround-Soundsystem is much, much better. Quite a bit more clear and present.

Great to know. I have the upgraded sound system which does sound fantastic, especially when cruising back home at night, just had no real comparison and didn't know if it was a marketing ploy...
