GTS or GT3 purchase?
i was shopping a tts for a bit too but here in orange county, porsches are a dime a dozen. decided to go the path less traveled and couldn't be happier!
The 9K rpm redline is cool but the rumble with the open exhaust on the GTS starts at 3K and you will enjoy it more often that the 9K redline of the GT3.
I am sure the P forum will tell you to get the 911GT3 but I can honestly say that the GTS really makes you feel special and the GT3 is just a dialed up 911.
If you splurge for the upgraded interior, it is a step above the P cars and comparable to 225K+ supercars.
Finally, the fact that you rarely see a GTS versus the sea of 911s out there is also an intangible in favor of the benz.
Post a pic when you get one

If I may sum it up easily; the GTS is a street car that can be tracked and the GT3 is a track car that can be street driven.
GT3 aspects: incredible 9k rpm redline and amazing LeMans exhaust noise. Its a tremendously flat car in the bends with point and shoot steering. It is quite possibly the easiest rwd car Ive owned to launch. It does indeed require a driver to be on it at 8/10ths or more (to max it out)... and Cali freeways are not ideal for this car of course. The 991 chassis with its longer nose and wider track and low roof line really shine and the car provides an incredible amount of confidence in all types of challening driving situations. The interior of the GT3 is good, functional, and comfortable. Its not as advanced as the GTS but also doesnt feel as constricting.
The GTS aspects: Well most of you here will echo me and even add to this so Ill just disclose that up front. The GTS has a great sound too but its more of a deep throaty roar. The steering is practically perfect and I would honestly say its better than the GT3. The chassis is well balanced although I felt more connected to the GT3 especially at the limits. The ride of the GTS can be more stiff in even normal situations but still has a very neutral feel to it on higher speed turns. I like the GTS interior better as its feel is slightly more luxurious in nature but it does feel more tight than the GT3.
Speedwise the GTS is faster while the GT3 (to me) can get out of the box better with less wheelspin. Id say it would be toss up on the track but since you dont track the car, the GTS would probably be the better daily driver with its higher tq ratings and more usable street personality. Value; zero question the GT3 holds that crown without a doubt. Honestly you can't go wrong with either car and I only have the GTS because it came out after the GT3 and fit MY needs better.

Yes, I agree that the TT would be a better comparison in driving and amenities, but new vs new, the TT is so much more and out of my price range that I feel comfortable spending. Plus, the TT 6 needs and exhaust right away to get a nice sound, where the GT3 NA 6 sounds pretty mean stock. I mention that because I think an exhaust note definitely adds to the, "thrill of the drive". I'm really leaning toward the GTS because, like others have said, of the low volume and newer car, haven't seen one in my area at all. I have P cars everywhere around my area and if you are not a fan or car enthusiast, you can't tell the difference between models. VIC, please stop posting pics of your cars, not making it any easier.. lol. Gorgeous TTS.
You will get more looks and waives in the GTS than the porsche and it doesn't have the boy racer spoiler that says look at me.
I'm biased. I love my GTS.
The other car in the back of my mind was the AMG GT s...
For a few months of searching...the 991 was a pain in the *** to purchase due to limited availability and $20k + price markup on pre-owned builds that didn't match my wants...
So I bought a 2016 AMG GT s... it is sooo much fun to drive, the exhaust and dual clutch paddles are a blast, the steering is precise and the torque is crazy (my first car like that)
I drive it in sports plus mode 100% of the time, I'm in vancouver, there are three I've seen in seven months. Talked to one guy that bought his at same time as me, he had a porche 911 before also, and he loves the AMG gts
For street only hands down AMG gts, if tracking I'd go with the Gt3
(Ive had my AMG GT s for 7 months and at 8,000km, it's been perfect
And the $, here in Canada with our slinky/sinky dollar, base is 150k and add a few options and you drive out at 165k Canadian with a car that is incredibly optioned, compared with when you build a 911 gt3 your at near 200k...if you are able to secure a build
Cheers

as I posted; no chance the GTS competes with the GT3 from a resale perspective. Congrats, SB is an amazing color with the CCB contrast it will be an eye catcher.
Thanks VIC, I'll post some pics next week. And thank you all, for all the comments, I honestly couldn't have gone wrong with either car.
As for depreciation, here in Canada it's different... Your car...
160k us x 1.30 cad = 208,000 x 6% duty = 220,480 + 5,000 for transportation plus brokerage fees, inspection.. etc = $225,480 Canadian for a slightly preowned 991 GT3 compared to 165k for a xpel wrapped well optioned brand new off the floor AMG GT S...
thats 60k more, leaves lotta room for Canada amg gt s to fall away
enjoy your car :-)
Yes, I couldn't turn the deal down and I agree with you about ever wanting to daily drive the GT3, or the GTS for that sake. I will be keeping my 14' E63s(only 6k miles on it) and I have a brand new Ram 3500 diesel truck for daily use, so The GT3 will only be used to hit the backroads(driven hard) on weekends or some Cars and Coffee type events.
