I suppose I can start my introduction to this forum with a new thread. My name is Alex, as you can guess from my screen name. I live in North Dallas and am a tinkerer of cars. It has always interested me, when I get a new vehicle, to research the required/suggested maintenance. This was especially true for my new GT-S as it is my first Mercedes. I have extensive knowledge with General Motors vehicles being a GM World Class Technician and ASE Advanced level Master Technician (a past life) but I am aware that this is going to be a different animal. I figured if I was searching for these documents others may be as well. So to kick things off I will post the A/B service checklist and follow-up with procedures on how to maintain your beast

I will omit some of the obvious procedures, like checking fluid levels and under body damage

Time for an oil change, no not a normal oil change. Notice in the procedure that you must drain the reservoir and then the drain plug and last the filter. Not difficult but different. The drain plug is a 6mm hex key

The air duct is passive, it is also very important. This draws air in from the front of the vehicle while driving and delivers it to the Hot-V section of the engine compartment to cool the turbo area

Fuel Filter. Not likely that many of you would attempt this, but I would! Also, not sure if i agree with their service schedule on this. I would probably lean on the 50-60k mark.

Transmission / Rear Axle fluid. Yes, there are two reservoirs and the service is done at the same time. It's not as bad as the SLS but Mercedes will still charge like it is. My local dealership quoted $2000 for this service. You do not need anything special! The only reason the diagnostic tool is connected to the vehicle is to monitor assembly temperatures.

Please let me know if you need any more specifics. I posted the procedures that interested me but you may have another that interests you. From what I see most of the other procedures are very basic and straight forward.

Thanks for posting all that good stuff. It will come out handy as I refuse to pay dealership pricing for those procedures and trust my local mechanic.

I really appreciate you posting all those procedures. I like to do all my maintenance myself. Always have. I drive on track a lot, so maintenance is key to longevity.

You guys are amazing... buy a $150k car and try to save $100 or $200 per year by changing your own oil or bringing it to an independent.

$100 or $200, fair point... But $2000 to change transmission fluid? Robbery.
In my case it is not so much trying to save money on maintenance, more so I don't trust anyone to actually do the maintenance I request. I am fully capable and qualified to perform all of these procedures and see it as part of the joy of owning and taking care of this fantastic piece of art. I'm sure others out there are in a similar position and I just want to help anyone get access to the information they need. This can also be beneficial to anyone bringing their vehicle in to Mercedes for maintenance. Having a solid understanding of what they are about to perform will allow you to ensure you are getting everything you bargained for.

So if I buy a 750k house, I shouldn't change the AC filter, or fix a leaking tiolet? Some people don't mind doing work on their cars, I like doing the small task within my depth. You don't need a certified MB tech to change the oil and filter.

First of all $750k isn't an expensive house. Try buying a $2 million house and fix your own house problems with a chance of voiding the home warranty because you tried to save $100?

Plano, Texas. Called the dealer I purchased the car at, asked for a quote, said they would call me right back, 10 minutes later... Uh, yes sir, that will be just under $2000 for that service.
