HOW TO MAKE MY GTC EXHAUST LOUDER

Hey Guys,

I want some recommendations on how to make my AMG GTC Coupe Louder. I spoke to a couple people and they told me not to touch the exhaust because the AMG Performance exhaust is pretty good and not worth touching for the money. Is my only other options Mid pipes and down pipes? Will a tune make it louder?

A lot of us have removed secondary cats/resonator. Mod is very simple. Just cut and replace with tube.

What’s great about this mod is that it eliminates heat and all it really does is just increase the volume of exhaust and drop the sound down one octave. Otherwise car is exactly the same and no drone

Did what AMG17GT said and it strikes the right balance. Downpipes require cutting off OEM pipes and you can;t put it back to stock without dropping the transmission.

Tune won't make it louder. But it will add color. Seems like there's more snap, crackles and pops on downshifts. Maybe more 'instant on' due to the virtual elimination of throttle lag from a stop.

Does his suggestion not require cutting of OEM piping? to eliminate secondary cat and resonator

Will cutting cats void warranty?

Does cutting the cats void manufacturer warranty? Will I have issues bringong the car for service for engine related issues?

No lol. They are really just resonators, the size of a pineapple, to reduce startup exhaust volume.

Just do it. You’ll see.

I have been hearing from multiple people that it can void your warranty. I know it depends on the SA but I'm a little bit worried. I already took them out. I love the deeper sound but now I feel like I made a stupid decision.

We repair modified cars under warranty all the time. As long as the modifications aren't the cause of the failure, it isn't cause for warranty voiding. Now, if you have a tune and downpipes and come in because your transmission exploded, yes you may get your powertrain warranty voided. That's on you though.

Correct. It has to be related to failure. Removing Resonators will never cause a mechanical failure.

Your car sounded fantastic when I drove it! I think you might get too much attention from the police if you go much louder. Especially in Burbank. They are notorious for using anything as an excuse to pill you over.

PS Thanks again!

I've heard that adding downpipes can trigger check engine warnings? Can anyone confirm?

Yes adding downpipes will trigger a CEL per Renntech.

Which is logical as the "downpipes" originally contain the primary cats. The primary O2 and secondary O2 surround them for emissions/lambda sensing & control. So, when you remove them that system stops working properly despite the fact that you leave the O2's. It now requires the accompanying tune to adjust the valve timing to obtain the increased horse power and keep a related CEL "artificially off" such that it does not annoy the driver. However, in doing so, you *might* not get a CEL for actual real issues related to emissions or even worse any other engine related fault codes. It really depends on the quality of the tune. Some tunes are real hacks of the code simply forcing any engine fault code to be ignored. Others are more refined and pinpoint just the emissions related tests. So, buyer beware.....

being one that mods everything I own... LOL here is my .02 Once you tune the car you are basically at the mercy of your dealership if anything goes wrong. On my 45 I had the down-pipe and tune done and every time I went to the dealer for something they said the same thing... "we see the car is modified" IMHO the GT's are plenty loud already with the car in race mode.

My GTC Roadster have 700 hp. ECU + catless downpipes. Sound much louder, but i want more sound (My regular AMG GT stage 2 is louder on downpipes than AMG GTR or GTC)
Stock dont have any sound(((

Hi! Do you have a sound example video for me? I would love to do the same mod but before it would be helpful if I can have a first impression of what it will sound like. Thank you very much in advance!

Cheers Joe

Every time I try to record the exhaust the iPhone doesn’t do you any justice at all as it doesn’t record the low low frequencies

What he said^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I can listen to exhaust clips from a recording but it does not really sound like it does on my car. I have always done way better when I listen to other people that have the exhaust or exhaust manufacturers that I have used in the past
