Alignment Shims

Is 1973570600 the correct part number for the alignment shims? Was quoted $285.56 at my local dealer for a kit containing 3 plates.

Item 290 on the diagram according to the parts department.

‘When I get home I can let you know, but iirc there are far more shims than just three in each box.

Tracked the car for the first time today, had a blast can’t wait to do it again. Overall the car performed well. A couple dash warnings came up. One said spoiler or something to the effect inoperable and wouldn’t let me exceed 119mph, I chalk this up to going over a couple rocks on the track at 150 and must have triggered the fault, it cleared after shutting it off. Second was active brake warning, it showed up coming into the pits, it also cleared after shutoff. I did get a chip in a rear rotor, hoping someone here can advise if I can keep running it or what the potential damage harm from continued use will be? Thanks

That chip could be problematic. The dealer will tell you it needs to be replaced immediately. You can certainly watch it closely to see if it propagates in size; if it doesn’t you should be OK as long as it doesn’t cause any issues damaging the brake pad.

How did it occur? By removing/reinstalling the wheel?

I want to add data to my lapping experience. Looking for a full fledged system that shows track (with GPS), throttle/brake application, timing, video. I searched this thread and didn't see much. Any recommendations are appreciated. Thanks

Bish-The chip in the rotor occurred on the track or most likely. I inspected the rotors after the new wheels went on and they were fine.

Data logger I use on my GT-S is an AIM Solo DL1 which connects to your OBDII port which gives you all the data you could want, and then add their video camera.

jlrv: that is the correct part number but in each box there are multiple different width shims. My race shop had to use two boxes to get me to -2.5 camber at each wheel

I ran another track day this week and have a couple questions for the group. After my last session I noticed all my wheel weights were in a pile on the bottom of my rim, I assume they detached due to the heat in the rim. Is there another way to bond them? How often are you changing engine oil also trans axle when frequently tracking? The brakes performed pretty well overall. after about 12-14 laps the pedal started getting soft. I think I will add the Tikt brake ducts for greater cooling as I plan on tracking the car as much as possible. In regards to the alignment I see talked about frequently going to the -2.5 caster. What can I expect if I make this change?

You can put some metal repair tape on top of wheel weights so they don't move.

I like to change the oil after every track day but you can get away with 2 or maybe even 3 weekends without changing the oil.

The tikt ducts, or any, will help substantially minimize brake fade.

-2.5 camber not caster. This will help with corner grip and possibly with tire wear depending on which tires you are using. I have found that alignment to be as close to perfect for my set up. -2.5 F -2.3 R toe and caster set to stock

Having a dedicated set of track rims, I don't put counterweights on my rims.
Even when I DD on the track set up, the vibration isn't that bad.

FS: Signature SV501 wheels for GTR

I have a set of Signature SV 501 wheels in the OEM GTR fitment for sale. Colour: Gunmetal.

Two of these wheels are brand new in the box, and two are lightly used. The used wheels I would call a 9.5/10. They are essentially perfect but since they’re ‘used’, I can’t call them a 10/10! lol

All four wheels come with OEM TPMS sensors.

For those of you who might not be familiar with Signature: these wheels are custom made to order; forged; strong; lightweight, (I think the fronts are around 22/23 lbs and the rears around 26 lbs), and super good looking.

They make a fantastic second set of wheels for track tyres; winters, etc.

New the wheels and TPMS sensors would be over $4,000. I’ll sell everything for $2,650 shipped to the lower 48.

PM me if interested.

Bish

That is a SMOKIN deal - Signature usually builds these with aggressive offsets - having them built like this means they will fit a GTR or a GTC...someone is going to get a deal!

MG1422,

Yes, I think it's time to sell the car.

I tend to keep my 'fun' vehicles for about two years and I've owned the GTR for 2 1/2, plus we are in the beginning process of potentially building a house so freeing up some extra capital isn't a bad idea. No doubt I'll be buying something for the track sometime soon though; just can't decide what. I'm thinking of a more dedicated track car like a Camaro ZL1 ILE for about a year, and then maybe looking at the new C8 Z06 when more info is released about it. Time will tell.

If you know anyone who is interested in a fantastic GTR, it's at Merit Partners in Atlanta.

I hope you get every bit what your asking for your GTR! I drove a Camaro ZL1 manual, not even with the 1LE package, and was impressed. For the money it's got a lot of character but it was not nearly as well sorted or balanced under power...felt twitchy. But I think it looks great in that blue color, and interior was pretty good actually. If I were to add an American muscle car to the garage I'd give a hard look at the ZL1 1LE.

Buying a 2020 Camero ZL1 ILE tomorrow for the track. Keeping the GT-S for dinner and 1/2 mile events when they come back post Covid.
