GTS 6-week Ownership Review:
I must say, it was very hard to follow the break-in instructions for the 1st 1,500 miles, but I did it and now I am really enjoying driving this beast!!
I love my GTS so much that if for some unfortunate reason, I am ever forced to only have one car and have to get rid of my other rides, without a doubt, I would keep the AMG. Hands down, it is the best driver car I have ever owned. I have been blessed and have had the opportunity to drive other nice & exotic cars, but nothing stands out as my experience with the 2 GTSs. I tried to draw some comparison between the GTS and Hurracan in the following category:
Gear Box: GTS, although DCT in Huracan is a major improvement over the single clutch that has been the norm in Lambos, the GT’s tranny has the edge. When I put the Huracan in Corsa mode, the clutch is snappy and jerks me around.
Driving Dynamics: Although both cars are a lot of fun, I have to go with GTS
Look/style: Probably Huracan, although I love the look of the GTS
Sound: You would think a NA V10 with $4,500 Sport exhaust option would beat most others and it does, but the AMG GT is one of the best sounding cars out there with stock exhaust. They make very different sounds and I like both equally in this department. One thing worth mentioning is when I start the GTS, I feel like I am in a race car!
HP, 0 to 60: Huracan
Fun factor: GTS, you don’t have to go fast or rev it high to enjoy the car. It pivots like a go kart, it sounds like a race car, it’s just AWESOME!
Cost of Ownership/Maintenance: GTS
Interior: Although very different, I like them the same, but Huracan has a slight edge
Technology: IMHO, both cars have antiquated tech that are more than 1 generation behind. I had a 2016 Z06, 2 years ago, it had better tech such as Cosworth’s Performance Data Recorder, dual front parking camera, multi-color, multi-function Heads Up display, etc.. But If I were to choose one over another, I go with GT as it at least has lane keep assist, blind spot monitor, break hold, key-less go etc.
Reliability: Since Audi/Germans took over, the Lambos have gradually become more reliable. My Gallardo and Murci were finicky, but the Aventador and now Huracan are rock solid cars. I feel they are both equally reliable
Ride Comfort: With Mag dampers, Huracan is more comfortable in the Strada mode, unfortunately, you can’t individually configure different settings which forces me to go to Sport mode to open the baffles and change other driving dynamics, so GTS wins. Having said that, I wish the GTR or GTC were more ride compliant, as I originally wanted to get the GTR, test drove 2 and decided against them. I then considered GTC and I guess you could blame my old tired back, but I couldn’t use that as a DD either. I think in this day and age and with available technologies, there is no reason to make a car too stiff in comfort mode, even exotic sports cars.
Exclusivity: Hard one, I see less GTs than Huracans in Dallas area. But if I were to show off, I would probably take the Lambo

I completely understand your comments on GTS vs GTC/R with regard to ride compliance, especially considering the roads we have in our area. I test drove almost everything in the $100-200k range, and the GTS still won me over in terms of package/driving experience to value ratio.

Re: ride compliance in the GT R. The MPSC2s are very susceptible to psi change. I DD mine set to 28PSI cold F&R, and it helps tremendously with the ‘ride’; doesn’t harm handling, and tbh I couldn’t give a toss about longevity; it’s not a family SUV after all.
I traded my loaded ‘15 Z06/7 for the car and like you I miss the PDR; it should be standard in a car like ours as should an HUD which is a tremendous safety feature. Btw when guys at work ask me how I describe the GT R I call it a Germanic Z06. lol

- No keyless entry
- No adaptive cruise control
- No lane keeping assist
- No park and hold feature - caught the car rolling forward a couple times after I pressed and released the brake out of habit - yikes
- No automatic high beams
- No memory seats
- No volume controls in the steering wheel
- No trunk space to speak of
- Can't make passenger mirror dip/drop in reverse

You are right, it is not as practical and the low clearance is a pain as sometimes I forget to lift the nose and you hear the dreaded scraping. I use my GT as a DD, park it everywhere, do grocery shopping, run it through car wash, etc.

If one wants a V10 thats normally aspirated and desires a daily or semi daily I highly recommend the Audi R8.

I can compare the R8 to these exotics Ive had:
2014 458
2014 Ferrari FF
Both dont hold a candle to the R8; Audi does a better job incorporating tech IMHO. My F cars both had the nasty chrysler BS radios but then again, I didnt buy those cars or even the R8 for tech as my defining choice.. I just love the R8 V10 song (Ive had 2 of them) and its so brilliant that I got over any inadequate interior amenities.
