GTC Under $90k? How Many Years Before We See It?

Kids will be done with college in 2-3 yrs and I have an eye set on the GTC. Will definitely need to pick up a preowned. I've noticed the 2018 GTs have cracked the $100k barrier. I need to be in the $80k range to pull the trigger but I want a wide body. GTC is the car for me.

How long a wait do I have?

I would guess/say 36 months to get into that 80k range. Looks like if that holds true. It would be perfect timing on your part based on your situation.

MB’s of all kinds.
Well I have said for years the AMG GT will be under $80,000 and well they are. So I do not see why this one wont be. You should be fine in a couple years to find one. However I think the higher up you go on these the slower they will drop in value vs the the base model.

Here was my thread similar to this one https://mbworld.org/forums/amg-gt/70...-up-value.html

Naturally every car will eventually go below a certain threshold. The GTC's may take a bit longer to get there for a couple of reasons.

Age. The GTS was introduced very early in 2015 as a MY16. The GTC came out over 2 years later as MY18
Price. The Base of the GTC was $15K higher

Unknown: The AMG GTS has been discontinued in the US as of MY20, leaving a larger gap between the GT and GTC. Not sure how that may affect the GTC. GTS's could take a hit in terms of value...

I think the big driver will also be lease terms end. So by that math (typically 24 or 36 month leases) you should start to see some in early 2020.

Having recently shopped GTS while I bought mine, the sub 80 ones are in bad shape and not well optioned typically. The sweet spot seems to be 85-95 (used-CPO); as mentioned the model year dynamic may play things out differently than expected.

Couldn't be further from the truth. My car was an MB lease turn in turned CPO, and several of the others I cross shopped were as well.

Not saying that it is smart for most folks, but it is happening.

What do you guys think the "floor value" will be for a well optioned, 1 owner, immaculate GTC?
i.e, in 12 years? I'm thinking $65k USD.

The floor value of an S65 is about $30k, for example. I have the AMG GTC at $65k because it will always be a special car due to the amazing design. The next gen may not look as nice, and it will definitely have a hybrid V8.
So I put its value somewhat in the middle between any other high end MB and an SLS.

The reason and S65 is so low is because it cost 30,000 to fix anything.

GTC at least 15 years lol when we will all be on SS. Stop speculation and drive the car you want.

As someone who kept waiting for the right moment to buy, and got tired of waiting, just go for it. Get it while you can and enjoy it while you're able to do so, there will always be better and newer every single year. If you want it now, go for it. 2-3 years from now you'll see something else, and then you'll say "I'll wait 2-3 years until the price comes down to X".
I'm glad I got mine "earlier" than the date I thought I'd be getting one. I love it and it's worth it.

When you start getting up there in age (and have already been revived 5 times from death), you don't think about tomorrow, let alone 3 years from now. I live for each day and there are probably 25 cars I will own in the next 3 years (I already am on the list to get a few on them). I have never thought about what anything is going to be worth to someone else down the road, I only care what it is worth to me today. I am told it is because of how my life has gone, I was homeless begging for food 50 years ago, and now I help 1000's eat every day. Like the song says, what a long strange trip it's been!

Yes, totally agree with the replies. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not thinking of waiting 12 years to buy one for $65k, I’m planning to order one this year. But for me, I always work the cost back to cost per mile - that’s how I determine how much a car will cost to own.

And it’s a way to justify owning what is otherwise an expensive car. I guess no one knows what its value will be in 12 years. There’s no comparable AMG from 2007...
