Performed a TSB and eliminated a LOT of cabin noises.

Hi all. Last week I performed a TSB refering to cabin noises. Here is the TSB LI62.30-P-061211.

It refers to the diagonal supports at the top rear of engine going from shock tower to firewall. I simply removed the bolts and put lock tight on them and reinstalled them to 27NM. Before I did that I sprayed some good lube lightly down in the channel where the braces sit at each end. The screws under the computer on passenger side are accessed by simply lifting computer upwards off of its ball and socket mounts. I also put a little lube on the black plate sitting under the bolts at each end. You DO NOT have to remove the braces, just the bolts and lift the a bit to spray lube underneath.

I have to say car cabin now has far less noises especially the creaking noises when your turning into your driveway and one wheel is climbing the driveway curb.

I hope they were reusable steel bolts. Aluminum must be replaced as they torque to yield. Can't do that twice without compromising integrity.

[update] Just checked.... you are good. They are steel. :-)

They are steel. Bare in mind the dealer can do this under warranty if you show them the TSB and complain about the noise. With that said it was so easy to do that the dealer would have been a waste of time.

Thanks Katie!

Do you have the actual TSB document for reference?

Only the synopsis which you can find by using the tsb. I did come across a person that must have gotten the whole tsb and he wrote about it in another forum but I could not find it when I went back to write for this post.

i did get some info from this post https://mbworld.org/forums/amg-gt/63...t-end-pop.html

Thanks for posting this @Katie22! It sounds like you have what I have. Note that the new braces have some type of adhesive that apparently minimizes noise further.
Question - my sound is not loud, and more like a faint rattle rather than a pop. You can hear it when turning into a driveway, or on going over certain payment bumps at low speeds. It’s certainly not super annoying or major, but you can hear it. Does this describe your sounds?

Yes exactly the noise. It has been over a year since I did the job but if I recall I added felt to the bottom of the braces where they contact the channel they sit in. I then re torqued the bolts to the NEW torque setting. Is there still occasional noise, yes but NOWHERE near what there was before. I could say take the car to the dealer under warranty if you want but dam its so easy that I did it myself.

Ahh thank you. I figure i might inspire people to do their own work or at least have a better understanding of what happens when they take the car to the dealer. Crap the other day i did the 24 spark plugs on the Maybach. That took me several hours but it probably saved me 600 dollars or more........

Correction I re read my original post. I DID NOT ADD FELT to the bottom of the braces. I added lubricant to the bottom of them and the re torqued the bolts. I was just careful adding the lube so it did not get into the bolt holes since I used lock tight on the bolts when I put them back in.

There is a piece of essentially a double sided tape on the bottom of those braces from factory, so if they come off you are supposed to replace that for the noise issue. Back when these cars were new and this noise was happening we had a hell of a time finding it before that TSB existed. Some cars got struts and all other sorts of front end parts. Usually when the spring spacers were left in from PDI. I did see a reference to not drive the car with those braces removed or you will risk breaking the windshield due to body flex.

Thank you Joe. When I responded to this today I had totally forgotten about the black sticker pads on the bottom of the struts and my memory told me I put felt on them because of the black sticker............ But yes I did not use felt. For me it was just lube grease and then torquing the bolts to the 27 newton meters.

Interesting, thank you both.
BTW, great color combo (white with red top), and rare!

Thank you Surge. It even has the carbon fiber body option so there is some carbon flair as well but hard to see in the picture.
