Renntech Ecu tune
I am considering spending $3500 on the Renntech ecu tune for my GTS, wondering if anyone has done it and could give me some feedback on how it effects the cars performance and if its worth the cash.

The “Search” function works wonders. This has been discussed many times.
Yes it works.
Yes it increase seat dyno.
Most power is by also increasing size of Turbos and exhaust modification.
Yes, the extra power may be hard to put down with rear wheel drive and stock wheels and tires.
BTW, scroll down the first forum page , there are no less than Four Tuning threads. Happy reading. Do a little investigating .

The Renntech ECU tune is great.
The Eurocharged or most other vendors ECU tune is just as good and costs less than half.
If you want to spend an extra $2000 to tell your friends you have Renntech, that's your decision to make.

Is Renntech a ECU tune or an OBD port tune... there is a difference from what I know. The Eurocharged tune is an OBD port tune which doesn’t flash the ecu completely with all parameters? A ECU hard flash can be done more comprehensively with more parameters. Please correct me if I’m mistaken...

I went with the Renntech HHT on my GTS. Very easy to plug into the OBD port under the dash. Swap takes a couple minutes. Easy to swap back before getting serviced at the dealership. It definitely makes the GTS more enjoyable to drive.

From what I've learned the RENNtech hand held comes programed with one's latest stock tune for your VIN so you have the most recent "campaign" tunes Mercedes offers for the stock ecu. Its only a matter of plugging in the OBD II and loading the RENNtech tune and the ability to flip a switch to convert back to stock. They seem to have an in with AMG to have the latest stock software. For this added convenience it's more expensive.
I had another tune and although the power was there confirmed by the dyno pulls, the drivability in C and S mode was not very good. I've decided to go back to the stock tune for now with the latest factory upgrades and the car drivability is much better. If I do go back to an upgraded ECU it would be the Renntech..

is it detectable by Mercedes Services center that the ECU flashed back to stock from history (by using Renntech HHT)?

If they look for it, every single tune is detectable, and can get you flagged, and will show up if they dig down for expensive power train warranty work. Literally the only way you can stay tuned, and under the radar, is by running a secondary ecu that's cloned and tuned, then swapping back to your primary ecu for service.

I've been back and forth to the dealer a few times and have had no issues or mention of the tune. Using the Renntech HHT makes it easy to swap from the Renntech tune back to stock and back again. This is the most basic level of tuning. As you opt for more aggressive tuning, larger turbos, etc., I think it sorta becomes apparent on its own.
In the end, it really comes down to personal comfort level. You do need to be able to pay to play. I'm pretty comfortable that the base Renntech HHT will not overly stress the vehicle. As you ask more of the vehicle, obviously stress on the car increases. Acknowledge the risk, accept it or refuse to play.
Life is short---enjoy it. There are definitely more grins per mile with the Rennetech HHT (or other tune).

So I'm thinking since my dealer won't sell me touch up paint without a VIN# how am I going to surreptitiously buy a second ECU without giving a VIN# and creating a paper trail. Just asking for a friend.

My dealer knows exactly the mod's that I have done to my car, and they have no issues with those mod's. The only possible issue might occur if there were an engine failure/malfunction which they could prove directly was attributable to the ecu tune which, in my opinion, would be remote. I am not willing to drive my car in stock mode until the warranty expires. I realize there are differences of opinion on this subject and this is just my .02

We are about to launch the OpenFlash Tablet for the AMG GTS/C63. Handheld tuner that offers data logging, user configuration gauges and tuner alerts. Free off-the-shelf tune files which have been developed on my own personal car over the past year. Full torque and flat torque tunes will be available. The OFT also allows for user-adjustability using our free user tuner software (for 3rd party dyno tuners who want to make fine tuning adjustments or compensate for unsupported modifications/fuel types). It can be unmarried from the car and transferred to another car when/if the time comes to sell. Will be testing tomorrow at Laguna Seca Raceway so expect an official product release on Friday
Price will be $995
