2020 GTR Apple CarPlay awful sound
I have a 2020 GTR with the Burmester Audio system and whenever I play music via Apple CarPlay, the sound quality is terrible. The same music through my phone and Bluetooth connection sounds fine. I've tried multiple USB cables, and played with the various audio settings, but nothing solves the issue. Before I take it back to the dealer for them to sort out, I'm curious if anyone on here has experienced the same issue?

The ‘regular’ Burmester sound system is certainly not that great in my GTR, but it is highly dependent on source, and sometimes even a specific channel on a source such as Sirius.

All other sources sound great... radio, bluetooth, Sirius, no issues. USB connection with CarPlay and everything is distorted.

Generally like everyone I have been annoyed with the crackling of apple CarPlay that I didn’t use it for months after getting the car. Today I decided to take another crack at it and this seemed to work for me.
Go into settings (search sound check)
Turn Sound Check on
THEN go to the EQ tab on top of the “Sound Check” tab,
select “Late Night” as your EQ preference.
BOOM try listening now! For me it works I hope it does for you all to!

I think that for MB, CarPlay is an afterthought in general. Its missing altogether up to 2020 in the GT, where it was dropped in other parts of the fleet. I just picked up a 2021 W213 with the new MBUX system, and it doesnt even play full screen! It literally looks like a poorly designed Joye add on. Outside of this the tech is amazing, but here. Just wow.

On my 2019 G wagon, Car Play works full screen. And it sounds good.
However, Car Play in general SUCKS. I’m a big Apple fan, but CP needs work. I much prefer having my iPhone on a windshield mount, as I do in my 2019 GTC. That gives me full iPhone control, Siri is available via the steering wheel (just like with Car Play), and I have the main COMAND screen available. So you can have Waze on the iPhone and the music or engine data visible on the COMAND screen, which you cannot do with any Car Play system.
Another annoyance - when you are using the 360 cameras and Car Play is auto-launching, it will replace the camera view with Car Play automatically — super annoying, and dangerous, when you are backing up.
