So after further testing the ASR Module on my 18' GTR today, it does nothing for Valve open idle sound and low RPM 0-4k sound. The only difference is the cold start with valves fully open is insanely loud.

That shouldn't be the case. Even in Race mode the valves don't open completely until over 4k rpms or so, so the valve will keep them 100% open even under than threshold.

If you look at Cete's official video on the 18' GTR you'll see there's no difference between Valves idle + take off. Keep in mind on launch with the ASR fully opened he takes off faster so it sounds a little louder:

Just went out and tested, seems you are correct. My reason for buying it was the need for wide open warm startup, but seems the only other benefit then is wide open sound while in comfort too (not that I ever use that mode, since I have the comfort suspension set in my i mode).

So does this mean GTR's Valves are almost 100% open stock when exhaust is on or the ASR Modules can't get them 100% open on idle and low rev's?

I'd have to say no.
For my car it now has a much more aggressive sound now during start up and through low RPM range and with not much load.
This is quite noticeable when driving in traffic and say backing out of my garage.

For my car it sounds like valves are 100% open at ALL times.
It is night and day difference, you cannot mistake it at all.

Think this is what you were asking about...

You have a 18' GTR? If so take a video after cold start of Sports+ Idle Stock then hit ASR button to open valves fully. In my case there's zero difference in idle sound but I can hear the valve do something between stock open / ASR open while hitting the button.

Can anyone who uses ASR advise: If the Flaps are in Close mode (button 2 - Komfort Modus), the flaps stay closed even if the engine RPM goes over 4000 or high speed?

Hi Stenzel,

Sorry I just saw your reply. I ended up returning the Cete module. It did nothing of note for my 2018 GTC. Perhaps it works for other models. Certainly not what I was hoping for. That's why I couldn't tell if it was on or off. I'm just going to delete the resonators and call it good at this point.

Hi ,

That's the bad thing. The flaps then always remain closed.
Even at full load and high engine revs.

Best regards

Stenzel

Thanks Stenzel, that's what I thought. This of course can affect the output power, but also may damage the components up the exhaust system to the engine.

Speaking with Renntech about their EVM unit (which is the OEM version from ASR), I understood that their remote control fob has only 2 buttons, 1 - to open the flaps 100% and the 2 - to go back to stock. They eliminated the 3rd button to close the flaps, and therefore protecting the car from an operator mistake.
Maybe, this worth the $250 up charge between Renntech and ASR

Cheers

So what you're saying is that the upcharge is just an idiot tax? 🤣

First whether you buy ASR unit in EU for US$ 385.- plus 19%VAT+shipping to the USA at $102, ( paying $560), or
buying Renntech for about $605 shipping in the USA included, we are all overpaying for such a simple electronics.
Any suggestion for alternate?
So yes, the upcharge, and frankly the entire cost is an idiot tax

Interesting, when I ordered the ASR module it only cost me $407 total, shipped from Germany.

ASR stop shipping to the USA, so you have to use EU forwarder (which they also trying to block). In this case ASR will collect the 19% VAT. Using a forwarder also increase the shipping cost.

Here is a quote from ASR's email:
..."We have an exclusive agreement with RENNtech, Inc covering the U.S. and
Canadian market based on large volume orders. We are honoring this agreement
therefore you cannot buy the product directly from Germany."...

Interesting...

I am surprised the Cete module did nothing for you. I have had it on my '18 GTC for a couple of years and it dramatically changed the character of my car at idle and low revs. My wife complains a lot about my noisy car. She didn't before the Cete.

Just got RENNtech EVM for my ‘20 GTC. Works perfectly. Pushing the remote control button 1 open the flaps100% and they stay open all the time, including after shutdown and restart. Pushing button 2, puts the car back to factory default. The unit remembers the last position at startup. There is a noticeable louder exhaust sound when the flaps are wide open, either at startup, or driving at lower rev and lower speed.
I like the fact that there is no 3rd button to close the flaps, eliminating possible mistake of driving at high revs with flaps closed. The only con is that Renntech charge high premium for this unit.

With how loud our cars are, I can't fathom who could possibly drive around with the flaps 100% closed and not absolutely be aware of it.

I just installed the Renntech brand EVM on my 18 GTR and just like you, I'd say there is absolutely zero change in loudness, tone, or pops when button 1 is pressed in ALL modes including idle. You can clearly hear the valves opening and closing between button 1 and 2 while in C or S but all it does is open the valves, but in the modes that the valve is open by default like S+ and Race, there is literally zero difference. Even driving in C mode the car sounds exactly the same as before by just pressing the integrated exhaust button prior to the EVM being installed. I think either the 2018 GTR have their valves fully open by default with the stock button, or the evm is just not designed to work with 2018 GTR. Will do more testing tomorrow but heavily leaning towards returning it.

Thanks for letting me know. I was going to try that one for my 2018 GTC, if my secondary cat delete wasn't good enough. Now I won't. I'll report back on the cat delete with before and after videos / sound. Not til February.

I've driven a GTC with secondary cat delete before and immediately after it was done and it made a FAR greater difference. The pops were a lot louder and idled loud as hell. My previous GTS had secondary cat delete as well and it idled louder than my GTR. Not sure of it will make any difference on your car, but his EVM literally did nothing for my GTR aside from adding a guaranteed open valve cold start but absolutely not worth $600 for this gimmick.

Getting valves to stay open

I’ve battling a stuck exhaust flap from time to time on my 2016 amg GTS. I’ve been considering getting the renntech/ASR module. How would this work if the exhaust flaps are sticking? Would the exhaust flaps need to be open prior to install? If so, how could this be achieved? Seems like this module is a work around for sticking exhaust flaps, but if they are already sticking, I’m not sure if the module would work.

It's Feb... LOL
Waiting to hear your results and impression of 2nd cat delete. Strongly considering doing the same to my GTC... before I waste any unnecessary money on a Renn/ASR module
