The good news I get out of this is the confirmation of AWD and electric boost. Much needed to keep the AMG in competition with its arch rival 911.

I really can't wait for the new SL to come out. I'm torn between it, the GTC, and the S63.

And good luck finding parts to keep it running more than 5-10 years! This new generation of cars will become paperweights once MB stops making parts for them. No one will TOUCH one of these out of warranty.

Note how high the hood is. It’s lost that low slung hood from the current GT. Platform will now be shared with the SL - urgh, not good.

three COMPLETELY different cars. They couldn’t be farther apart from each other in terms of driving style, feel and purpose... however any which way you choose there will be a great car in your driveway...

No transaxle, no front mid-engine mounted. Don’t know how they’ll get the ideal 50/50 weight distribution

5 years..WTF...there are still early 2000 Prius' on the road fine. MB's supply chain for a new platform is not just going to manufacture/source parts for 5 years.

I'd like to see a good rendering of the new SL. Those "spy" photos (which show us exactly what Mercedes Benz wants us to see, so they aren't "spy" photos at all), seem to show the SL has a lot of GT in it.

More importantly the GT will share the SL platform going forward. No more SLS frame?

From what I get they are moving to some kind of a modular chassis.

It’s also the cost, not just supply. When that hybrid motor, or inverter, goes, you’re going to be out a hefty sum. These new electric power plants are going to cost a whole lot more to service, which means values of the cars will drop when out of warranty. Not good.

Totally - so all that is unique about the GT will be diluted to... nothing. Just a rebodied SL. Very lame. This is Not the way to beat the 911. Hopefully these are just rumours and it won’t actually happen.

Dude, I just replied to what your post said...now you are changing your words.....In case you havent noticed ALL parts are "a hefty sum". What do you think parts are for a porsche, ferrari, lambo, aston, etc...these arent commuter cars...parts are very expensive. Electric motors/parts will be the same. Youre also assuming these parts are going to be failing left and right....people that drive hybrids from lower end cars rarely have any issues and these cars are now on their 3rd+ owners. Tesla is one of the fastest growing car manufacturers, haven't seen or heard about issues with repairing/replacing components.

Whether you like it or not, the entire car industry is moving to electric motors at some capacity.

You're regurgitating **** that was said when the first hybrid/electric cars were being produced 20 years ago.....and guess what it hasnt stopped the industry from moving in that direction (and people from buying it). Just like any technology it gets easier/cheaper to manufacture over time.

No, it does not. Tesla’s have terrible quality and reliability, so that’s a bad example. Search the forums and YouTube.

“Tesla Model 3 Loses CR Recommendation Over Reliability Issues

Owners report problems with paint, trim, and electronics in Consumer Reports' survey”

https://www.consumerreports.org/car-...bility-issues/

The point is that you can’t repair or even replace just the component that breaks on an electric car - you’re looking at an entire module or various components. I just spoke to the head AMG tech for Canada about this. He’s very disappointed by what’s happening. He mentioned that if an electric motor fails, it gets replaced - there is no way to repair it. Obviously that’s not the case with a gas engine.

I don’t know what you’re talking about that I’m “changing my story”!? Just focus on your own comments, instead of second guessing mine.

If you’re leasing or keeping your hybrid car for a short time <5 years, it doesn’t matter; you’re right. But the resale hit once these cars are of of warranty - good luck. You’re looking at $10K+ on anything drivetrain related on these cars. Oh, and you’re not taking your 5 year old hybrid GT to the corner mechanic either.

The fact is - cars are becoming like PCs - after 5+ years they are basically worthless. Checked the price on an 8 year old Tesla lately, with its original battery?
