Exhaust valve button...

So my 17 GT does not have the option for the exhaust valves...my question is, between the GT and gts, are the exhaust system the same? Also does putting the mode in sport plus basically do the same as hitting the exhaust button if one has that option?

On the GTC the exhaust tone is different in race and sport plus but I am not totally sure if it is because the idle is raised. Then of course there is the difference between on and off using the button.

So yes sport plus and race cause the exhaust to get louder.

The backend of the exhaust on GT cars without the AMG Performance Exhaust option is not the same as the one on GT cars with the option and the GTSs. The exhaust system is a different part number and it does not have the values that open when the button is pushed. It is more than the button simply being disabled in a GT without the option. Sport Plus is not opening the rear valves on your car in the way that the exhaust button would because they don’t exist.

Two different things change the sound in Sport+ mode. On GTS/GTC/GTR models (and base GTs with the valved exhaust option), the exhaust valves open (equivalent to pressing the exhaust button), making it louder and changing the tone. This exhaust valve does not exist on a base GT without the exhaust button. The other change is in the ECU, where sportier engine modes have higher idle and different anti-lag configuration to make turbo lag practically disappear, and also throw in extra fuel in a manner that causes burbles on overrun. The valved exhaust being open makes the burbles louder and more frequent though. The Sport+ ECU configuration changes also alter the tone of the exhaust slightly even when the exhaust valve is closed or not present.

So does a base GT without the exhaust valve button, sound the same as a GTS with exhaust valves open? Are the mufflers the same? From what I understand, there’s secondary cats or resonators that we can delete and replace with a straight pipe.

No, it sounds closer to a GTS with the exhaust valves closed. GTS with exhaust valves open is much louder.

You can delete secondary cats to make it louder.

Discussions about removing those on other threads were mainly about making the GTS even louder, since with the valves open the GTS is almost straight piped. I personally don’t understand why one would do that to an already loud car, but to each their own.

So if one wants to make a base GT louder or as loud as a GTS with valves open, then I would have to go aftermarket catback system correct?

Yes. Removing secondary cats on a base GT might get close in volume to a stock GTS with valves open, but the tone would probably be different.

For emissions sake, you’re probably better off with an aftermarket catback exhaust.

looking to clarify something on this thread. Exhaust for AMG GTS .... does that come standard with the AMG performance exhaust with the in-cabin button for opening/closing valves whereas in the AMG GT, the AMG performance exhaust is an option/not standard? Or is the performance exhaust an option on the AMG GTS and NOT come standard?

did a pretty extensive search on the forum and read through this (http://www.motorologist.com/wp-conte...S-brochure.pdf) and i dont see it mentioned as an option....so i assume that GTS has AMG performance exhaust standard

tia

From the 2019 ordering guide, says it's standard for GTS, not base model.
