Making the GTS my Own
A few of y’all have seen pics of the new setup on the AMG GT Owners Facebook page, but for those that don’t follow it, I figured I’d post here.
I’ve had the car about a month and a half now. So far I’ve done the following cosmetic mods:
- Vinyl wrapped all chrome trim black
- Painted the AMG front logo black
- Painted the exhaust tips black
- Swapped all chrome emblems for gloss black
- 20% ceramic tint on all the windows
- 50% ceramic tint on the windshield
- Vinyl wrapped edge of headlight to mask yellow reflectors
- Paint correction
- Ceramic Pro coated
- PPF on front bumper, hood, fenders, door handle pockets, carbon mirrors, behind front wheels, in front and behind rear wheels
- Lightly smoked the taillights
- Lightly smoked rear reflectors
- Initially added 15mm spacers to stock rear wheels
- Powdercoated Vorsteiner wheels in Prismatic Bronze Chrome
- Lowered on H&R springs
- Custom black license plate
I think I’m almost done with cosmetic mods. Might add a carbon front splitter and side splitters. Going to swap out the black seatbelts for yellow ones to match the yellow stitching on the interior.
Once the warranty runs out, I’ll put on the tune I’ve got waiting, then I’ll likely add downpipes and, maybe, some Pure turbos later.
Stock wheels and tires, along with the 15mm spacers and titanium lug bolts are for sale in the marketplace for anyone interested.

I was reading all your mods while looking at the first photo and thought to myself those mods wouldn't really make a difference. I scrolled down a bit and boy was I wrong. Beautiful car!

Hahaha thanks! I suppose it's in the details. I bought the car without ever seeing it and thought I was in love. When the car arrived, I loved the way it drove, and it looked decent from most angles, but there were a few things about it that kept me from really loving the car. Sitting like a 4x4 and having the stock wheels sit inboard made the car look terrible to me. Really happy with the way it has turned out so far!

Looks much better lowered and with the bronze wheels.
I haven't owned a black car in forever so can't really comment on the smoked and blacked out bits.

The horses are now in the barn, 2019 E63s
Very well done. When I see a GT that looks that good and I know how well they perform I'm happy to still be in search of an AMG car because last summer I drove a 911 Carerra GTS and knew that was the car for me. All that changed at the beginning of the year when I ordered a 2020 E63s. I chose sedan over a coupe but my order was canceled so now I'm broadening my search and the AMG GT/GT S is in play.
Your example is one of the reasons why.

I prepped them with some degreaser, then shot it with adhesion promoter followed by high temp caliper paint. I did them on the car. I watched a video where someone installed black chrome tips and knew I would certainly scratch the finish the way they had to force the tips back into position.
Thanks! That means a lot! I’ve drooled over a 911’s for years and will eventually move onto a 991.1 Turbo S in the next year or two and hopefully put my own spin on it too!

You'd think
When the factory started back up 4/20 MBHQ had to make a decision with E Class production transitioning from 2020 to facelift 2021. What's funny is that my production date was the first 10 days of May so they could've at least produced some number of special orders and canceled regular 2020 allocations and probably still been on schedule for production line changeover to MY 2021. I even told my guy that I'd do designo Manufaktur if that would've help get me the 2020 I ordered but no joy.
It stings because I've tried to decide on another AMG but I keep coming back to the 2020 E63.
Pardon the thread sidetrack.

Hope that helps. I’ll post before and after height pics later today when I get the car out. Need to finish mowing first.

Great looking car, well done I had a general question for you guys. I have a 2016 GTS and the trim around the side windows is in chrome and wondered what product folks use to change make them black?
