2018 GTC Electronic Differential Lock Error
Last time I took it in to the service center, the advisor was pretty confused as he never heard of this issue on the 2018s. They ended up changing the gear shift assembly as they found - what I suspect to be an unrelated second issue - about the car not shifting into Park. (Which I posted about here several months ago, but the problem never came back).
Anyone see this issue on the 2018s+ GT/S/C/Rs?
Here is the error and the last service record (I dont know why the secretary wrote Distronic last time, but the Advisor called and had the right error looked into)

I hope you have the car off the road and on a flat bed back to the dealer!
[Love the steering wheel btw - where from? OEM?]
The wheel is the stock dinamica wheel, I just put a yellow 3M vinyl wrap on the center stripe area.
As much as I hate to, I think this may happen. Its been 4 days and the techs in Germany don't even have any updates on the car. I really loved this spec and the louder exhausts, physical center console button panels and analogue gauges. I dont think there is even a used 18-19 solarbeam yellow roadster for sale in the US right now.
Check this link here. I had my Service folks put in this fix before taking delivery of my MY19 GTC.
Summary: a wire could become chaffed at the rear of the car that runs to the Diff. When it gets torn up, the error occurs.

The Best of Mercedes & AMG
Like you have noticed, we turned off the car, turned it back on and the error went away. I found that link sitting in the parking lot at the Aral and kept it handy ever since that time. :-) Hopefully, that is your fix...it would be a shame to get rid of your Beast!
Let us know how you make out.

Car is going to the shop for the 3rd time. The issue has gotten worse, now it can come up after minimal driving. Before, I figured I could go 20-40 miles without it. Absolutely unacceptable.
Here is the error once again. And the service report. Seriously its time for Mercedes to step it up and treat this as a hazard. We have been full Mercedes customers for over a decade with exclusively buying their cars. This whole incident being treated like a minor problem has made us doubt our decision to stay with the brand...
There are only 2 dealerships in my city and both are owned by the same franchise. Only 1 is an AMG certified center.
Obtain legal representation and let them take it from here.

They have not, unless if that is the drivetrain CAN line mentioned above. They checked the drivetrain CAN line only after I insisted they look into it. They did not find anything.
The car was kept at their shop for over a week during the last visit where they ended up doing various software updates/resets. I also have the impression they are well out of their league on anything past minor repairs on AMG GTs; hence, their hesitation for taking an aggressive approach to this rather serious issue.
Like for proof? I was going to get one anyways, so thats actually not a bad idea for the future.
I had a discussion with the service advisor on Friday and he said the reason they are taking a while for each visit is because they wait for their Mercedes Germany tech team to respond. They strictly have been going by their recommendations. I have contacted MB of North America and will be discussing what their understanding is of this issue.

Find a new dealer. Ask who their most senior AMG certified tech is. Work only with him/her.
I talked with the SA today and he said the AMG Tech team in Germany is taking point of the issue. The technicians here just gave the German team the "Blackbox data" - forgot what it is called as I was multitasking with several other stuff going on today. I'll get more information tomorrow about what it was called. Supposedly the issue might be more serious cause MB of North America called back in the evening saying they have escalated the issue for me and a replacement might be considered. That is a 4-7 week process just to get considered though.
At this point, I have come to terms with the fact that I will not get the car for the remainder of the summer. Which is a damn shame, but safety is above all.

The SA told me that because this car fits between a "racecar and a traditional AMG" - they like to be extremely cautions for any suspected major repair, so thats why they have been hesitant to do anything drastic.
The gear shift part actually bothered me when I saw that was replaced, but I figured they were 100% sure that was the issue. Turned out it was a separate issue for the car.

So the dealership has been test driving my car (for over an hour each time - as per MB Connect) for the past few days after checking all the cables/harnesses and putting well over 6+ hrs on it each day of labor.
They just asked me if I can drive the car with them, since they cannot illicitly the error. I feel like this is a big no no - mostly because of safety. And that implies that they have not found anything. Also this issue is pretty unpredictable [sometimes occurs after 30 miles of driving, other times within 7 miles], so what happens if I drive it with them and the error doesn't come up? Seems like an easy way for them to say its fixed. I am going to tell them I will not do that. Does that seem fair? I believe no repairs were made since the last visit, so nothing has changed.
This issue has become a sort of nightmare and I am losing all confidence in the car. I am simply holding off till MB USA responds with their assessment for a replacement/other option. That will take 4-7 weeks. I feel like I am stuck in limbo until then.
