Did anyone else receive the below letter from Mercedes? Looks like they are now extending the factory warranty on the transmissions specifically to 8yrs unlimited mileage now. Not sure if this will apply to all model years but I see this as a huge win for 2016 owners.
I think it is good because from what I've seen, MB isn't allowing much (any) invasive work on this unit past the factory. Unless they do, and until they provide both parts and repair info, they kinda leave owners hanging and on the hook for complete replacement costs after warranty. I am guessing the subsequent years' units will follow as time goes on; or, MB is preparing to let go of the reins on service.
I didn't read the above as covering leaks only. The statement above reads, in part - the transmission could fail and RESULT in a leak. If taken literally, then the trans would fail for some reason and cause a leak.
I would agree if the statement read - the transmission could leak and result in a failed trans (failure).
One way or another - good news and hopefully they'll extend the bulletin year by year.
Yes, you have to call MBUSA, and talk to them. Give them the VIN and your address etc. I had gone to a dealer and that had gotten part of the Mercedes Me app working, but it didn't work completely until I called MBUSA.
I got a letter today. Though as one of the early amg gts’ out there, I still find it unnerving to know mine wasn’t under the driveshaft recall. Have a 16’ amg gts edition 1.
Good news indeed. As Acta_Non_Verba said, they really do leave owners on the hook post warranty. 🥲
Sooo my reimbursement got denied as I had my transmission replaced back in March due to transmission failing when car would not go into reverse. As I figured, Mercedes focused on the “leak” verbiage.

Unfortunately, the problem with my transmission falls outside this extended warranty. It had to leak to be covered. I will share that MBUSA gave me a very hard time and didn't even read my letter describing the circumstances of this one-off premature failure. I'm basically paying $15k out of pocket. The brand does not stand behind the quality of its products. Their brand motto - "the best or nothing" is just crap marketing spiel.
