K40 issue/help/Info
Hi, I recently picked up my 2020 AMG GT and it has what I think is a K40 (the voice says K something but hard to hear clearly) custom install with the laser jammers and all the detectors etc. I know absolutely nothing about these things. There was supposed to be a fob or something in the car to I guess silence/control it. Unfortunately, I can't find it nor can the dealer who sold the car. Anyhow the thing is driving me a bit batty as whenever I am driving it in town it is picking up all sorts of stuff from doors etc., so I am driving down the road and literally every other minute it is chirping beeping meeping booping. I feel like I am trapped inside R2D2.
I know this is a general and odd question but can I buy a fob or some other control from the makers of the K40 that will work? Is there a brilliant suggestion on where some sort of control panel might be hidden? The only thing I can see are the small detectors and laser jammers hidden about the car and two small lights in the area above the speedo, tach info area.
I am about to start ripping wires out of it and that seems like a bad idea but short of me only driving the car only on deserted roads I am a bit hampered at the moment. As you can imagine living in a crowded area like the San Francisco Bay area that thing is going off constantly.
I've tried wriggling my nose like Bewitched, snapping my fingers and blinking none of that seems to turn it off either
Yelling t it makes me feel better but doesn;t stop it and just makes people think I am crazy.

I had this system installed in my Bentley. It worked well, but the problem was police laser bands kept changing and it took constant upgrades to the jammers they added to the front (and rear if you have that option). The last upgrade, they needed to add 5 more jammers in the grill and I decided to bail at that point. There are other K40 models though and you might have a different one than what's described below.
The only way to switch power (on/off/voice/tone) on my model is through a remote.
The remotes can sometimes be found on ebay but they're incredibly (stupidly) expensive.
The option you have is to cut power to the controller. I have a schematic I will upload it to this reply in a PDF if it works. This might help you get disconnected if your model is the same.
The control unit seen in the wiring diagram is typically installed right under the dash (mine was right below the steering wheel) but might also be found on the other side too. It probably picks up +12v right out of the fuse panel under the passenger's side footwell. That'll get you disconnected.

Thinking about a second option you might have - consider contacting K40 - k40.com. If your system was installed by one of their certified installers, K40 might have your unit info by your VIN. Maybe worth a try.

Good luck with it. Hopefully a remote from K40 will make this system whole again for you . If so, it is quite a system if up to date with the latest police lasers.
That'll be helpful with the pesky CHP here in Nor Cal- although in fairness they always have been good to me.

Yes, helps. I am shooting at the range pretty regularly with many of the police in two areas where I live and roam. Helps that some of them recognize me, but more importantly, recognize and know my car!

Man last night went to dinner with a friend and we sat at a light and it was picking something up and for 2 turns through that traffic light cycle it was going off- more beeps than an Italian high street full of Fiats.
Ive had 2 K40 systems; both total garbage.
The first made sense, a stealth system with clean install. It was bad, sensors were replaced several times, etc & I essentially left it turned off. The second time, it had already been installed by the previous owner; I had it fixed once & then had the shop disconnect it from power... total garbage.
The amount of false alerts, laser alarms, etc. is horrible & my hat is off to anyone that can learn to ignore it, yet pay enough attention to recognize a real alert. With all the other functional, stealth systems available today, I can't imagine someone installing them in a GTR or any expensive vehicle made in the last 10 or so years.

Well, I feel a bit foolish- The car is still new to me, so I hope that is a good enough excuse- I was sitting in the car today playing with the Apple stuff, learning the different settings etc. and I moved my left leg from the position it is normally in when I drive- Down in the foot well there was a tiny little controller hardwired in to the wall. I had been told it was a fob, so I didn't even think to look for it anywhere else but the glove box and the console between the seats etc. Anyhow, I am now able to mute it, and it works like a charm- even was able to test it- There are a few places on 280 between SF and San Jose where CHP sets up- I had Waze on and drove down towards San Jose- sure enough Waze said Police Reported ahead and sure enough there was CHP set up on the backside of an incline by Hi 92. I was intentionally going the speed limit (I usually do anyhow) and as I approached what we called the military crest of the hill before the CHP car could even see me the- you better hit the brakes alert started going off. I am going to check it a few more times for accuracy before I start my 200 mph runs between SJ and SF (VERY kidding)
Anyhow, thanks to everyone who gave advice. Very cool of you.

Totally get your point though about the beeps etc.- I had a short daydream of running the car in to a wall just a bit to break whatever is on the front of the car- I need to work on my problem solving.
