PPF on a matte car
guys - for those of you who have a matte car and have it PPF'd, how much did it cost? I am being quoted $5-7k out here in Seattle and that sounds steep. Thanks in advance

Sounds about right. Overall result is really installer dependent, and would advise to go with a good if not best installer in your area who warranties their work, and offers legit post-install service if film bubbles, peels, yellows, etc.
Xpel and SunTek films typically have 10 year warranties.
From FB GT Group: "Full vehicle install with machine cut patterns for 98-99% fit with some edges wrapped (instead of custom hand cutting for the 100% but with associated risk of blade nicking paint no matter how skilled), including CF roof, CF rear wing, CF side fins at fender outlets, side skirts, etc was $8K in California. Xpel Stealth was used on all painted surfaces, SunTek Ultra clear on all the CF bits with their thicker film at CF Front Splitter and side skirts for added protection."

That’s the right ballpark price. More importantly, it’s WHO will be doing the work, not just which shop. What I have learned (the hard way), is that there can be a huge variation in work done within the same shop.
Also, ensure they ceramic coat the door handles, as the chrome trim on top of the handles will water spot very easily.

I paid $5k for Xpel stealth on all painted surfaces except lower rear bumper. No PPF on roof since it’s glass.
another quote from a different installer
Full Vehicle Coverage: $5800
(includes Feynlab PPF Ceramic Treatment to the film. GlassParency Treatment to windows, Plastic and chrome ceramic treatments, Wheel and Caliper Ceramic Treatment)
Coverage - Front Bumper, Headlamps, Hood, Front Fenders, Doors, Rocker Panels, Door Sills, Rear Fenders, Rear Bumpers, A- C Pillars, Hatch, Spoiler, Roof.
I went with my installer since they were local in case there were issues (thankfully none). Other installer was about 1.5 hours away. I originally was going to just do the full front for $2k but I was afraid you would be able to tell the difference between the coated and uncoated areas. I do think there is a very subtle difference since my lower rear isn’t covered but you really have to stare at the right angle. I do think it would be more noticeable with just the front covered. Looking back, I probably should have done the second shop to get the fancy coatings too for not much more. Both shops are well respected in the area with very high end cars
On one of the first highway trips after the install I got a nice fat chip on my windshield and a small tear in the film on the front fender

I was quoted $6500 for full coverage using 3M Satin. The shop recommended 3M over Xpel and Suntek Matte films as they believe it more closely matches the factory Matte sheen. My car is going in this week for a "race" package and it will be about $3k. This included the full hood, front fenders, front bumper, grill, headlights, mirrors, A-pillars, roof, and rockers.

cool! keep us posted with after photos - I'd be curious to learn about the 3M option

You will need to do more than just the rockers. More like 8 to 10 inches up onto the doors and the full area in front of the rear wheel arch.
Same out back.
Yeah, I found with the Xpel that some of the matte look was lost after the wrap.

So Xpel Stealth keeps the colour of the GHM as close to the norm as possible versus the Suntek product. It is slightly different though, so to make the car look ‘whole’, plan on getting all of the painted parts covered in Stealth, and the glossy left over bits covered in Ultimate. My cost for the above was $6,000 and since I tracked the car it was worth every penny. BTW: a simple door ding that goes through the paint will ruin your pristine car as it’s going to be a beotch to match; meaning darn near impossible. When you’re spending $190K, what is $6,000-$8,000 in order to protect it as much as possible.
An excellent by-product is that there is so little to do when the car is covered in matte PPF: no waxing, ever, just wash with the appropriate matte wash soap.
Caveat: if I had to do it all over again I’d get the car covered in Ultimate everywhere as I love the more glossy look.

I had the A-pillars forward covered in xpel stealth. Cost about 2k. There is a very slight difference from the Magno paint. Most can’t tell. it does give piece of mind when cleaning bugs off the front.

That looks fantastic! IMO Gives the car a whole new look. I was going to do the same if I couldn't find a R in a color I liked. There are a ton of Rs out there in GHM, of course, there is the added cost to do it.
