New springs??

I’m getting a 2019 GT C and have been reading horrible stories about the harsh ride. Was wondering if I should get new springs and if so what brand??

Thanks

Owned one. not true, and really haven't read the same thing. The GTC is a touring car with a lot of forgiveness in its stock ride. I even dropped mine an inch and experienced no drop in ride quality. If the feedback is coming from someone moving out of an S class and comparing the two, I suppose I get it. Outside of that, its just not true.

What springs did you swap in that you were able to drop the car with no change in ride quality??? I live in the northeast and have to deal with potholes constantly.

Thanks

California roads can't be much better....the nation is in disrepair.

I used the adjustable kit from RennTECH. It's identical to the KW set up - but I can only vouch for this one in terms of ride quality. There is a LOT of travel room on these cars.

Skilly,
Is it just my eyes? In the pic you attached, it looks like the front tyres have a slight toe in?

I noticed that too

that a 1” drop and no change in ride quality is impressive

AMG GTS Edition 1
i think due to the design of the car, that you are sitting so close to the fat rear tires, you definitely can hear the tires especially with the factory tire choices.
overall the car is pretty compliant for a car of this specific category of high performance cars from my exp driving on high quality SoCal roads.
It got pretty suspect after i drove onto low quality roads though... like driving around old town san diego or la jolla

2016 AMG GTS
I think this car is too compliant with the stock springs. It seems under sprung even. I installed a KW H.A.S kit but junked the springs for Swift springs (# Z70-203-0100 front, Z70-228-0100 rear) which just about doubles the oem spring rates. Almost stock ride height and I think it rides really well considering the aim of the car.

I have a E1 and I dont think the ride quality is bad for what the car is meant for, what is the difference in the suspension in the later year models?
Did AMG change it that much where the later ones are more supple and more "comfort" like, that would be weird.

Finally took delivery and was pleasantly surprised the ride quality is NOT bad at all. Considering I’m up here in the northeast that says a lot. Don’t get me wrong it doesn’t ride like an S class but I can certainly live with this…..

Having driven early 2016s and my 2017, the 17 had a reduced spring rate. That being said my car was still pogoing off normal surfaces, and that’s why I changed out to Renntech springs.

Uh, I suggest you take possession of the car first and make your own judgment as to whether you think the ride is harsh. I have a 2018 GTC and it's a wonderful ride. There are three suspension settings and on the soft setting it's very soft and forgiving from my perspective. But I'm used to driving high end sports cars. I wouldn't consider changing the springs unless I wanted to lower it.

Hi Mike,

Congratulations!

It's a "purpose built" platform and it couldn't do what it does if it rode like an S Class...LOL...

I take "novices" for rides in my car and before we start I always say - "I'm about to ruin any perceptions you have about Mercedes."

Post some pics!

All the Best,

Acta

So I opened it up on the saw mill parkway up here just north of NYC. Shocked to see how well it handled the bumps. Almost like it floated over them.
