Thoughts on the right AMG GT C roadster
Greetings
Thank you for allowing me to re join and learn about this marque again
Thinking of adding a AMG GTC Roadster to the garage
Previously we had a CPO 2006 SL 600
Wife loved the style I agreed if a V12
Didn't drive like a sports car so it eventually became my wife's Boxster S which she loves and it does drive like a sports car even with a 4 cyl turbo
Her work car is a GLC 43
Relationship with local dealer is good but no inventory to see the car in any trim
I am still enjoying my 2015 911 Targa4S but find the AMG GT ROADSTER especially as a C trim gorgeous and the sound intoxicating.
Watched as many u tube videos that only affirm my thoughts that a CPO car I the ticket
Now the questions I wish to ask those with expertise
Overall has it been a good experience?
Purely a car for enjoyment so ease of use and driving experience is important as we will share this one
Forward visibility ?
Rear visibility with top up?
How small is the trunk ?
Can you pack soft weekend bags for two?
What to watch for ?
Value of Ceramic brakes ?
Value of Burmester upgrade ?
2018 or 2020 refresh?
What else am I missing ?
Many thanks in advance
Shaq

I'm a new owner of a GTC, although mine is a coupe. I've had the car for about a month. I can't answer all of your questions but can provide insight for some of them.
Overall has it been a good experience? So far, so good. The M178 motor is solid, this is my second car with that platform in it. I'm absolutely in love with the car. The decision to buy a GTC over a GTS was one that I really thought long and hard on. After a month of ownership, I'm very pleased with my decision.
Purely a car for enjoyment so ease of use and driving experience is important as we will share this one My GTC handles extremely well and drives surprisingly comfortably. The suspension is much softer in comfort mode than I thought it would be. I'd stretch to say it's softer than my C63S was.
Forward visibility ? Rear visibility with top up? I can't speak for the roadster, but the windshield is rather narrow on these cars. I feel like I'm in a cockpit when in the coupe. Visibility is fine and I have no issues with it, but the visibility won't be as "open" as your Porsche. Again, I have zero issues with visibility, and visibility is important to me as well.
How small is the trunk ? Again, the coupe trunk is different than the roadster, but my coupe's trunk is much more roomy than you'd think. I could fit my golf clubs + a backpack and duffel bag with ease.
Can you pack soft weekend bags for two? In my coupe, you could with ease. Heck, I could fit 4-5 soft weekend bags. Not sure about the roadster trunk, but I'm sure it's relatively comparable.
Value of Ceramic brakes ? Not a necessary spec, IMO. I like CC brakes and wish mine had them, but not necessary.
Value of Burmester upgrade ? I have heard it is not worth the upgrade, so I don't think it's an important spec to look for.
2018 or 2020 refresh? Depends on your budget and what you're looking for in a car. 2018 sounds better and some prefer the non-digital buttons, gauges, etc. Others don't care about the sound and want the upgraded tech.
Do it, you won't be disappointed.

Thanks Go Dawg
This is very helpful
glad to hear visibility is excellent the porsche openness is hard to beat but it is critical to have the thin A pillars.
may well go for it and will do a C got a few I'm thinking about

The GTC is the best performing car by a long shot with the highest fun factor of the lot.
The car is well balanced unlike the V12 due to its front-mid engine/transaxle/rear wheel steering and much lighter weight.
The difficulties compared to the SL will be tight entry/exit and you either love or dislike the bucket seats.
Rear vision is crap top up or down and half the rear view mirror view is covered by the wall behind the seats. Side view is also limited but the GTC has blind angle standard, so no big deal.
The hood is much longer than the SL and there may not be a front camera (2020+) but you have parktronic sensors. Easy to hit a curb though which can be pricey.
The trunk is small and shallow. You couldn’t fit a case a wine in there but a couple small bags for travel are no issue.
We have Carbon Ceramics and they are a no brainer; zero brake dust and great stopping power. Nothing like that in the old SL.
This is a fantastic car, quicker, faster and more agile than any SL but more of a hardcore roadster than a comfy GT.
The car will be loud inside and more so with the top up.
You mileage may vary on the upgraded Burmeister on a roadster. I find either satisfactory and the price will be the same on a used car.
I would take a 2020 for some features but the 2018 is essentially the same car. No difference in engine, power, transmission, suspension. Updated electronics, cooler lights, inferior exhaust sound.
We use the car daily…

I think other responses will cover your specific questions well. Here is a visual response.
Good luck with your decision.

I should mention that anyone wanting to travel with a GT/GTC roadster, there is the proper bespoke luggage option.

GT C Roadster
Own a gtc roadster
I searched and waited a long time to find the right one(for me). I wanted a 2018/2019 because I personally do’t care for the digital dash and digital switches. I love the ease and feel of the round buttons in the center stack. It’s very easy to adjust without taking eyes off road etc.
I wanted CCB and the high end Burm. So glad I didn’t settle. The music system sounds great and the breaks are fantastic, plus no brake dust.
car drives amazingly well and very easy to get used to. Only thing to be careful of is making sure you don’t get too close to the curbs on parking spaces.
other visibility issues are no big deal.

Overall has it been a good experience?
1 year and about 6K trouble free miles.
Purely a car for enjoyment so ease of use and driving experience is important as we will share this one
Not quirky in the least and can be Jekyll & Hyde with the turn of the knob from comfort to race
Forward visibility ?
Not the best and the car is wide, takes some getting used to
Rear visibility with top up?
Not abusive by any means but definitely different in the roadster
How small is the trunk ?
I have to take my driver out of the golf bag to get it in the trunk :-)
Can you pack soft weekend bags for two?
Yes, we are out right now with 3 soft bags and a back pack. Three LV 55s for reference LOL
What to watch for ?
Zero issues with ours. CPO for another 3 years though
Value of Ceramic brakes ?
I wouldn't own a car without CCBs if I had the option
Value of Burmester upgrade ?
I would say yes, especially for top down cruising
2018 or 2020 refresh?
I prefer the mechanical looking center console in the pre-facelifts
What else am I missing ?
All the fun :-)

Sounds like everyone is enjoying their GTC
I need to at least get my butt in one to check out visibility and hear the engine top down.
a few very nice samples out there

Visibility in the rear is limited but who cares. Complete non-issue. For backing up you have a camera and on the highway it doesn't matter. Most will only see your tail lights away
We got the car new and it has been completely trouble-free. Now at 16k miles. Best roadster to date.
Pic of the car and some to show the hump behind the rear seat...

2020 McLaren 720s Spider
Do it...I have a Pro now, but I loved my GTC! FWIW, once the top is up they also drive the same...the design on the Roadster is really exceptional. Regarding a set of clubs in the back...maybe a Jr set, but plan on them going in the passenger seat!

I recently bought a 2019 GT C Roadster, with only 2400 miles on it to replace, of all things, a McLaren 570S Spider. I was selling the McLaren and the dealer I worked with happened to have the Roadster on the showroom floor and I was immediately smitten by the looks. For comparison, I currently also own a 992 GT3, Taycan Turbo and, most relevant, a 2020 E63S. Both have the same engine in different states of tune. The engagement level of the Roadster is considerably higher than the E63S. The sound is incomparably better, even when burbling along at fairly low speeds. I have Porsche LWBS (lightweight bucket seats) in the GT3, and they're comfortable but really for the track. The Roadster seats are much more comfortable (and don't have a fire extinguisher on the passenger side :-)) but are just as grippy as the LWBS. It's a wonderful cruiser and a pretty good sports car, especially in its more extreme modes. The E63S is better for long freeway journeys, but the Roadster is more fun off the freeway.
I concur with comments from others about visibility and luggage space.
It takes a while to get used to the extraordinarily long hood. I'm used to wide cars but, if you're not, initial care is warranted.
If you're looking for more hard-core convertible sports car, a 911 is likely a better, or at least another, choice IMHO.

Thanks Flying Bear and all others for wonderful comments
The GTC roadster would be in addition and serve as a cruising sports car
I am also smitten by its looks and soundtrack
my wife won't give up her Boxster S
I still love my 2015 911 targa 4 S
remarkable how long the hood is
it is longer than our V12 Aston Vantage
trunk space in my Lotus Evora is very limited but she is sidelined as she thinned the deer population last month
and for long cruising M5 C has been awesome
Probably will add a front camera if we go with the GTC
waiting for the world to come back to reality before I try for the third time to get a GT3.
Paying over sticker is not acceptable given the great variety of wonderful cars out there

Ok starting to narrow down the choices
has anyone seen this car or have thoughts about it
I M not close enough to the dealer to make a trip but it has many of the desired options but has higher than most miles
it is cpo so that’s. Plus as is the price which just dropped again
https://www.mercedesbenzofchantilly....k8aa7ja014529/
there are two, others that are more appealing but more expensive or don’t have all, options or are not CPO
https://www.ferrariofnaples.com/inve...k8aa5ja015260/
not sure about convertible top color and not cpo. Confirming that no hurricane damage
Love the body color and interior no carbon ceramic brakes
https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-...Type=spotlight
black beauty hard to keep clean dealer is very cool. Color may hid the lines
planning on joining our roadster GT group
which one would you pick

I absolutely agree with MTHines. Black is beautiful, especially after paint correction and protected by PPF and/or Ceramic Pro (or similar ceramic product.). Dust literally rinses off my GTC before I even apply spray foam soap.
