GTR 1/4 Mile
Yesterday our local Cars & Coffee held the event at the Tulsa Raceway Park. I was hoping some of the C&C regulars would show up so we could see what the "Show Crowd" runs. There were some nice cars there but most of the track action was taken over by the dragstrip regulars. And why not it was only $15 to run all morning!
Now to the point, I didn't buy this car to drag race it but why not run and see what it does. I didn't use launch control, just rolled out and eased into it as I don't want axle issues with a prepped track. My car has a Renntech HHT and BMC filters on 93 and that's it.

I only ran one time but right out of the gate I was happy and didn't need to run it again. Maybe I should have tried w/LC.
They also set up some roll-racing and I did that a few times but there really wasn't anybody I was interested in running.
BTW, i also had my dragy running and it was pretty much spot on with the time-slip. Pretty impressive tool for $150.

Kinda fun right? I ran against a 6/71 blown Camaro, and the look on his face was priceless. Your pretty much inline with times I have seen. I ran 11.1 130 with 295 Super sports and wheel spin. 315 P4S might have gotten into 10s.
Launch control doesn’t get you off line faster.

The car is stock. I was on Michelin CUP 2 345/30-20 well warmed up on the rear. If you release the brakes in LC mode too fast , you will not get the results. It’s a delicate balance between the torque from the LC revs and making sure you don’t spin.

LC on my 2018 GTC always has just spun the tires like crazy and resulted in a worse time with dragy. I’ve only been able to get a decent launch with just engaging the brake hold feature and rolling onto the throttle. Never thought of using launch control and easing off the brakes…
Are you coming off the brakes in a slow steady linear fashion or coming off and modulating the brake pedal some before a full release when using launch control?

i am not sure if there is a torque difference between the 2018 and 2020 models, but the car is heavy and has a lot of torque at 5000 rpm. You need hot tires (150F and about 36PSI Hot for the CUP2 ) in order to have lower spin. I do my runs starting on a clean area of the highway shoulder, which is rougher and doesn’t have much grease from traffic. AND, traction control on the GTC is set the Sport ( standard will slow you down, and with TC off you will spin, no matter what).
Having a larger front splitter and/or rear fixed spoiler, will cut your acceleration when you are over 100mph. Could be in the magnitude of 0.1-0.2 sec.. Better to do the test with automatic rear spiller option. I also recommend to shift from 4th to 5th gear at about 6500RPM and not let it get to the 7000.
We have to remember that this AMG GT Series are not drag race cars. They are too Heavy. They are probably not great for autocross either, too much weight transfer time from side to side. These are great cars for endurance racing like on tracks design for Grand Prix/ NASCAR/ Le Mans. Try to do 1 mile runs, and you will discover that you have one of the best car out there. Several times, I manage to clock sub 27 sec (condition permitting).
My apology ifI gave too much info.

A cars of coffee friend has a 2020 AMG GTR RT Stage 2 .... 138.7 mph in the quarter, low 11's using a dragy on a warm 80F day, pump gas.
60-130 mph - 6.01 secs
His car just spins off the line!

My best 60-130 was 6.75 on a favorable day...but still dragy validated.
