GTR bucket seats
Hello I am looking to get my alcantara cushions in the GTR re-upholstered and the cushions are easily removable (stuck down by velcro. However at the bottom there is some sort of sensor that looks attached to the base cushion. Any idea what this is and if I can remove it? Trying to upload a photo but for some reason it keeps coming up with a little box saying (obj). Any ideas?

Hi,
"Weight sensor" is on standard and performance passenger seats.
It's different with Recaro seats. This is not passenger weight detection.
I only know the AKSE system on the Recaro passenger seat (Mercedes with code 244).
This is a child seat recognition !!!!! (Should work with a transponder) Why? I can't explain that.
Connects just like the "weight mat". So it should also be simulated. (no personal experience)
Just let it go. Didn't bother me
Best regards

if i get new upholstered cushions, i will need to just disconnect this weight sensor as it looks like its integrated into the cushion, so wont be able to remove it from the seat. If I disconnect it will it throw up error codes everytime i start the car?

Hi,
Of course, you will get an error message if you no longer connect the mat. This is part of the restraint system.
The mat itself can be simulated. But you still need the control unit (in the upholstery)
This communicates with the restraint / airbag control unit via LIN bus.
Or you code out the control unit.
The codes are:
U10 = weight detection
or
U18 = child seat recognition (AKSE) always with recaros bucket seats
AKSE = German: Automatische Kinder Sitz Erkennung
Translation US: Automatic child seat recognition
Have also new Recaro seat covers. Just left the mat. Didn't bother me.
And AKSE is also practical. You might want to race with your newborn as a co-pilot.
Child seat on the front passenger seat and go.
Luckily, Mercedes thought of that too. :-) :-) :-)
This child seat recognition on recaro bucket seat, in a AMG 2-seater GT remains a big mystery to me.
Best regards,
Stenzel

If you remove the seat occupancy mat and sensor you will get a warning code pop up on your instrument screen every time you start the car. Once you close this out the SRS light on the dash will stay lit and multiple codes will show up. I’m not certain if this effects both driver and passenger or just passenger but the overall system may not work properly. The AMG Recaro buckets have a sensor built it, but it may not be ‘plug and play’. Regular Recaro seats would not have this and you would need to assess other options. My understanding is that there is no emulator available for the AMG GT’s like there are for other cars, which would eliminate the codes and warning and still allow proper SRS function.

To me it looks like the matt is integrated inside the foam? Not sure how to remove it and place inside the new foam base?
Or did you just reupholster the exsidting cushions?
I could purchase a new matt and sensor but looks like an expensive part

Hi,
Answer you here. This might help someone with the same problem. Better than PM.
According to the EPC, this part cannot be delivered alone.
The E-Bay part you showed seems to be a weight detection mat. I don't know if this works on the GTR with bucket seat control unit (I don't think so)
It's useless on its own, you also need the control unit.
What do you want to do exactly?
Do you need / want other upholstery?
I also had my Recaro seats reupholstered with fabric.
The bottom, side panels remained. Likewise, the foam cushions. On the passenger side also the stock hole AKSE mat with control unit.
The cover is easy to remove. It's completely climbed. You only have to cut through the thread of the middle seam.
Cut out the Dynamica seat surface at the seams. (Top 1:1 Pattern)
Replace with Desired fabric, leather, Gold, Myrrh, Frankincense........:-)
Finished.
In addition, inflatable lumbar supports on the stock lumbar wedges under the backrests.
Because seat heating is not available from the factory with the recaro bucket seats.
Also 4 x carbon mats, for that. Works great.
Were sewn by AKSE Matte and the upholstery with the fabric.
Best regards
Stenzel

I wanted to preserve the original seat cushions and get new ones reupholstered in a new fabric and just replace them when necessary. However it’s becoming increasingly clear that this is not going to be possible.
So if I understand correctly I will get new backrests made with foam and the the new fabric, and then with the base, remove the dynamica fabric and have them put the new cloth on the existing base cushions which preserves the passenger seat sensor etc.
Then if i ever wanted to return to stock i would need to ask them to reupholster again back to the original fabric?

Hi,
In your case, wouldn't a kind of protective cover/overcover also be a solution?
Done well, you won't notice it.

i suppose that could be a good option. If i get them to create an overlay - how would i get the crease at the centre of the cushion to make it look like its two parts? Maybe some stitching?

Hi MalibuScott,
Thanks for the pic. One of the nicest car.
Funny, the stock 300 SL fabric was my first idea. Is now being made again in Germany by the original manufacturer.
There were 3 basic colors available from the factory. Blue / Red / Green. (always in this check / striped pattern)
Was very close to taking this fabric. (Want that green... :-) Had its appeal.
300SL fabric
Can still buy it from MB. Part Numbers:
Blue: A 000 983 44 86 / 5000
Red: A 000 983 44 86 / 3000
Green: A 000 983 44 86 / 6000
But I decided to stick with the black/white/grey theme.
(Now the only thing that "bothers" me is the yellow traction control button. Should it also be available in gray from C63 S? If I ever find one.....)
Either a black and white checked pattern. A little bigger, like a "checkered flag" .
Or, because I've always liked it: Houndstooth / Peppita / "Hahnentritt"
For the young men here, who haven't seen it live :-) :-) :
It's one of classic weaving pattern from the 50's.
Was really in fashion, used for bags, skirts, jackets, suits, hats, etc.
This has nothing to do with Porsche
Today also used among "Classik look" things. Also for Recaro Classic seats, at Porsche for retro look.
According to Upholsterer, the material used, should be "original Porsche" material.
But that can't be true, Porsche doesn't make any fabrics. :-)
But it should be the same material that Porsche uses.
@ DarkknightgGTR
Love your choice of green/yellow fabric.
Would be similar to my choice with your color combination. (300 SL)
Do you also have the roll bar? In body color?
Do your stock cushions changed. You won't to swap back. :-)
If you are also interested in the seat heating (like original), I can tell you how to do it. (own thread?)
Best regards
Stenzel
