I don’t mean red lining it in race or sport….I mean just putting it there in general for normal driving. Do you let the engine and tranny oil warm up to normal temps first?

Or am I overthinking it?

No, but I never really have the transmission in automatic mode if I'm in anything other than Comfort mode, and I short shift to keep the revs low while the engine and transmission are cold. With the transmission in automatic mode you can't guarantee that it keeps the revs low, therefore it's generally recommended to stay in Comfort until things have warmed up.

I just drive it like a regular car. I have a personalized mode I usually switch it into right away that is manual shifting and I consider slowly leaving my neighborhood as my "warm up."

For me, I've only used comfort mode twice since I've owned the car. I hate it BC in normal traffic, leaving a stoplight has me in 5th gear in 200 yards. I like each shift to be wound out a little more than that. Not a redline when the engine is cold, of course, but more than 1200RPMs per shift. I do this also BC I believe it helps to alleviate some of the notorious carbon buildup on a direct injected engine. So, on any start I am at least in Sport or I, and most of the time in manual.

On the subject of oil temps, I rely on the AMG screen to tell me when engine and trans oil are up to op temps. I don't do any really aggressive driving until the temps in the screen change from blue (cold) to white. These are the temps the factory engineers want the oils to be. Oil temp changes around 156*F; trans temp changes around 150*F.

Ive wondered about that - I dont move the car till idle kicks down and just gingerly leave my court so I dont run over anyone - so by the time I can open it up at all, it tends to be warm and ready.

My previous V10R8 had a redline limiter in pre-warm up that didn't allow the driver to open the engine up till the car was warm. The electronic gauge would show the redline adjust as it warmed up and limited revs against it until it was warm!

Yes, I do. I leave it in comfort until up to proper temps.

I pretty much change modes as soon as the idle lowers, and then just keep it under 3.5-4k rpm until temps hit 80C.

I drive it like I stole it and always pretend my throttle is like a lightswitch...on or off.
