AMG GT R Confusion

AMG GT R Confusion
I am considering buying an AMG GT R 2018-2020. The only problem is I've read that the 2018 model doesn't support Apple Carplay. I very much prefer the 2018 and 2019 interiors to the 2020 one. My question is basically does the 2019 model support Apple Carplay or am I doomed to pick the 2020 model if I want the convenience of the better infotainment center?
I apologize if the answer is obvious, but I couldn't find anything about this online.

As said above. More specifically the 2020 is the facelift, which among other things got the updated COMAND system and digital instrument cluster from the FL C63, which supports CarPlay/AA, OTA updates and the new Mercedes me connect online platform.

The GTR has been taking a bit of a beating in the market these days. a MY18 will be easy to find at a decent price and you can always update the command for Apple Carplay. There are a few suppliers and threads on the forum talking about costs etc. If you like the pre-facelift cabin, this would be the way to go.

Siri works for sending a text with the OEM system in the 2018, but buying/installing an aftermarket solution to get ACP working with the factory screen would be the best bet as Skilly states.

I have a 2018 (GTC) and love the interior (lack of) technology and honestly, I can't stand Android Auto anyway. I just use my phone on a magnetic holder and find it to be the best solution. The raw sound of the 2018 (vs the muted future models due to European sound regulations) alone justifies the older model in my mind. I personally believe the "connected" experience is overrated and unnecessary in a car like this. And mine is my daily driver.

No doubt, both need the EVM mod in my opinion....you know it as soon as you hear a cold start.

I don't see the problem. If the same car has multiple options, and you want one of those options, what's the harm in deciding based on that? I drive my sports cars a lot, and having something like Android Auto would be lovely. As crazy as it sounds, I also like cruise control.

I do somewhat agree that the tech stuff should be secondary as an AMG is primarily about the driving experience and not the tech gimmicks. I still remember when I did the factory tour in Affalterbach, the tour guide made a point about that AMG doesn't promote any of the cabin tech stuff, because an AMG is about driving it. The tech stuff is just there. However, it's nice to have, but it shouldn't be the focus point. AA and CarPlay do somewhat futureproof the car and lets be honest, we drive our AMGs in more mundane situations as well, so having cruise control and a functioning navigation system etc. does enhance the experience.
For me it isn't CarPlay, though as I rarely use it, but the digital instrument cluster. Just way better than the outdated analog stuff with a speedometer that I never look at wasting so much space. With the digital cluster and the Supersport layout I can get rid of that wasteful speedometer and move rev counter, current gear and a digital speed readout right front and center where it belongs and then display more pertinent information on either side. It's just more driver focused, and the whole cluster doubles as shift lights, so it builds up and flashes red to avoid running into the rev limiter. I don't even really need the rev counter, because I mainly shift by ear and the aforementioned shift lights ensure I don't bump in the rev limiter when winding it out.
Below is how I typically have the cluster configured. All the relevant temperatures and tire pressures on the right, with drive mode and boost gauge on the left. Depending on the driving situation I can replace either side with different information more relevant at the given moment, for example navigation information on a trip.

You can install the 10.25" screen for less then 1k (including labour) and gives you wireless applications play and android auto. Works great, looks oem and retains all functionality
