Question Buy a black car again?

A clean black car looks great - but some say it requires too much work, and then there's that swirl issue. Would you do it agian?

I would buy one again if i had the time to maintain it. When i bought my black ML in 99 I didnt know much about detailing/cleaning which led to swirl marks; however, now that i know how to take care of it from the start I would probably go black or obsidian black again.

Depends on where you live, IMHO - in urban areas, where spaces are tight, and scratches from little bumps are inevitable - I wouldn't bother.

That's why I opted for white on my new ML - easiest to keep clean, to hide scratches, and to avoid swirl marks with. There's no comparison to a black car - the dark colors are always more reflective - but they're lousy at hiding blemishes.

I think black looks great, but it really depends on the car. Some cars only looks good in black, some look good in colors too. I'd have to look at other colors first before I look at black again. I owned 5 consecutive black cars before I got the red clk, and i like it alot, but that might because it's a fresh change.

I wouldn't! I've had a black maxima before which i had a scheduled wash and wax every friday and it's really hard to maintain.

Unless I have enough garage space. I probably won't get a black car if I don't have a garage to keep out all the dusts, dews and sprinklers. Too much PITA.

Sure, I'd get it again. There's nothing like the nice shine of a freshly-waxed black car. I'd at least have one black car (but probably only one car only because of the maintenance factor).

Nothing but Black

I have three black cars and I can't think of any better color on metal. Even my litchen stuff is all black!! PITA to maintain but I found out that there are some very good stuff there that make the maintenance job a bit less tedious. I purchased the Mb cleaning package and their wax/polish/paint cleaner stuff, though not the best, is very easy to wipe off. That I like.

Yeah, I used that MB cleaning & waxing kit when I bought my first SLK (a black car) 3 years ago, used it twice and got lazy and relied on a hand car wash place nearby.

Actually I had no problems with that car wash for 3 years with my small black SLK. And my new SLK32 is silver and that one is okay with that car wash, too, but for some reason my new black E320 that I bought 4 months ago didn't turn out well with that car wash. I'm afraid that car wash will damage the E320's black paint.

So, I need to reconsider about washing it myself.
